Question for the Womens... To the Tech Geeks.
I'm in search of getting a tri related gift for a friend racing her first season.
She's not the mainstream portrail of a "pink" loving girl, hell I probably would prefer to wear pink more than most women.

Just been wondering.

Have any new tri products gotten any kind of a response from the women's tri comunity?
It seems there's just a bunch of crap when it comes to "women's specific?"

So bottom line... stick to the quality basics... ie: HRM ect.... or try getting something really designed with ladies in mind (if it exists)

I've been doing tris for 6 years and don't think I've ever used anything women specific (other than clothing/shoes). If you want to get her something women specific there are a few books on nutrition for female endurance athletes, but anything you would have wanted (now wish you had when you started) in your first year of triathlons is a probably a pretty good idea.

I am a data geek (engineer) and a tomboy to boot. I live in jeans, race T's and ponytails and I H A T E pink. I had to go to a black tie event for work this weekend and it was the first time in 5 years I had worn a dress or make up. Tho after all the attention it got me from my mostly male co workers it kinda made me want to do it more often.

I would say a Garmin 305 is THE thing to get if she doesn't have one already. I LOVE mine and frankly it is the best thing that ever happened to my run training in terms of improvement. Keeps me honest when I have a hard run workout. I love the freedom it gives me on my long runs. I can just wander where ever I feel like and nowhave to worry about how far I went until later. Currently, I want a power meter more than anything :(

The womens specific things I have - watch (the smaller face is more comfortable for me, although I rarely wear one anymore). MTB is womens specific (b/c I wanted smaller frame). Otherwise, clothes of course are women's specific. And I love pink (my favorite color) and my mtb is pink! Anyways, I've recently been battling some achills and calf muscle issues, and had the best massage this past weekend. I'd highly recommend a few pre-paid massages as a gift!

Thanks everyone.

I'm pretty sure I got all the info I need.
I was almost 100% on getting the usual but I thought maybe I was missing something in the world of "women's specific" triathlon stuff. Guess not really.

yeah women's specific stuff, especially bikes, are REALLY lacking (clothing being the one exception there). i hope that will change, but for now, its the way it is.
