WELCOME TO THE WOMENS FORUM

Welcome –verb (used with object) 1. To greet the arrival of (a person, guests, etc.) with pleasure or kindly courtesy. 2. To receive or accept with pleasure; regard as pleasant or good; to welcome a change.

This forum was set up for women to discuss topics related to the sport of triathlon. Everyone, men included, is welcome to post a related topic or respond to any topic, however, posts that are not welcoming or supportive will be removed by forum moderators and you may be banned from posting in the future. Respectful debate and discussion to increase knowledge is the key to a great conversation.

Supportive—adjective 1. Giving support. 2. Providing sympathy or encouragement 3. Providing additional help, information, etc. 4. Medical. Helping to maintain a normal physiological balance.

Please note: When topics and/or posts become offensive we will post a verbal warning or the thread will be LOCKED if people cannot respectfully discuss the topic. Under special circumstances (and after discussion amongst the moderators) posts and/or threads may be deleted.

Political topics belong in the Lavendar room, the moderators do not wish to moderate political discussions.

WHY WOMEN WANT THEIR OWN FORUM: there will be no justifications on this topic now or in the future. The purpose of this forum is not to argue about or to defend women's issues and participants will not be required to defend themselves or their right to a place to discuss topics related to women.

IS IT OK TO FLIRT WITH FABULOUS WOMEN POSTING ON THIS FORUM? If you like women, then we like you too. If you are a misogynist, then you will get banned. In other words, it's fine to flirt but don't try getting aggressive or rude. This isn't a singles bar and we aren't drunk.

The sport of triathlon attracts many athletic, intelligent, charming, and successful women. Welcome to the party. We're here to celebrate.

It should be Women's forum, with an apostrophe "s." Women is already the plural of woman. You want the plural possessive form.

Just a quick question, maybe it's been covered before and if so I apologize.

Why not make it a women's ONLY forum? My soon to be wife is a regular on an all-women's running forum and it seems to work great. They're a great community and really nice to each other and they don't have to deal with skanky guys flirting with them and giving them shit.

I would think the women around here might benefit from not having to deal with the guys all the time and would have a more productive, information-sharing experience.

Because some (most?) of us definitely do not want that. We would then miss out on the fantastic resources of people like Holden Cain.

Dear Cathy,

I'm a little bit saddened by this new forum (womens forum). I hope it will not take away from all the great interactions between all slowtwitchers (whatever their race or sex or nationality) that takes place in the main forum. As a general rule, I think too many places to go to makes it harder to keep pace.

Furthermore, how am I going to justify going on a womens forum ? No later than this week, there was a fantastic discussion on Slowtwitch about running while pregnant, which I very quickly forwarded to two friends who are pregnant at this very moment and I knew would be very interested in this (they didn't know the existence of Slowtwitch, and I think still don't know what it really is). Nevertheless, one of them quickly replied to me, saying thank you, and by the way how come you go lurking on websites that talk about women running while pregnant ? I could gently explain to her that it was a general triathlon-related website and that I happened to see this thread and thought of sharing it with them. NOW WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO SAY :-)

Taking care of ourselves, as women, is a full-time responsibility; one that doesn't end with us individually, but that extends to our sisters, friends, children and beyond. How we behave, treat ourselves and allow others to treat us can be a powerful teacher.

The topic of violence against women and what we can do to help stop it often gets brushed over and buried by more crowd pleasing topics. I've often thought of it as an epidemic trying to scream, but unfortunately silenced and ignored by too many due to its ugliness. I believe it's time to yell louder.

Glad to see the new Women’s Forum. There are so many new women coming into the sport and this will give them a great place to come and ask questions. I own a bike/triathlon store in Spokane WA and women are always asking me questions that I am happy to answer, however sometimes they need to get a second opinion from someone other than myself and this will give them a great place to come. I will pass the word to all the women I know.

Let her try MANY bike saddles by taking advantage of saddle rental programs. The Adamo brand is statistically favored here and a good place to start.

There are quite a few good threads on this with people asking the same question. Generally the recurring advice is to let her drive this. Let her make the decisions and be supportive, not putting your agenda first. Don't buy her the $3000 road bike unless she specifically asks for it. Don't run out and buy her tons of cycling gear, let her pick it out. Let her determine pace of any rides you do together.

Nobody likes to be told what to do :-)

I just found this group, yesterday and was so excited!! I just started into the world of triathlon, a little later in life than many but finally doing it. I had always biked over the years and did a few group rides but never really a race. Started running about 5 years ago when I realized that I really wanted to go after that dream of doing an Ironman. Relearned to swim last year and did 2 tri's this year, at 52. I live in an area that is not very active but then I get the trail to myself, often, in the colder months! But it would be nice to interact with other tri gals, even if it's only virtually. Though the tri camp you guys do sounds awesome! Maybe one day.....
I look forward to getting to know everyone!!!

CDA is a great Ironman event. Water is a little cool for people who travel from warmer climate. Weather on race day is usually very pleasant. It has great spectators to cheer you on and the course is very scenic. Hope you can come do CDA Ironman.

Thanks! I haven't had a chance to get back on. With working and the holidays and I am moving from PA to CO, Friday! :) so, I've been a little crazy with life. So, I will be in CO when I prepare for CDA. But after talking to my coach, it will be a few years. She wants me to get comfortable this coming season with Oly's. That works for me. I'm enjoying being a triathlete! Happy New Year. :)

I run a women's only facebook group for cyclists in my area. Recently a few members got really upset because I let a man into the group to post about some female foreign exchange students that would be arriving soon, and he was looking to introduce them to women to ride with. I don't get it because I'm used to being around guys all the time, but these ladies were seriously upset that there was a man in the group, even though he was there at the service of some girls! I was like, seriously??
The majority agreed that as long as they were respectful, they didn't mind if there were men in the group, but these couple of ladies put up such a fuss, I decided to go ahead and boot the guy. Then some other ladies got upset about the group being so exclusive!
You can't make everyone happy.

I'd post this as a new thread if you want more than one answer.

In my experience, you have already answered your own question. Just make sure that you have access to sufficient water via bike bottles on course to adequately "shower yourself" and dilute the urine.
