"Bargain" bike is done!
I felt Like Dr. Frankenstein last night because at the end of the evening I cried aloud, IT'S ALIVE !!! Many thanks go out to Kevin M., my friend and wise sage of the torque wrench who helped me put it together.

Proof positive that if you wait long enough the deals will come.

Now before you all get your panties in a wad over the spacers, I'm leaving them in there for a while until I'm sure I like where the stem sets. I will eventually cut down the steer tube, but left it long on purpose.

Test run will be next weekend for the Tierra Bella Century in Morgan Hill, CA

Wow, very nice. I like it very much. And for that price, I like it even more. Pls reply with a report after you've had a chance to break it in. I built an all-rounder and I'm always interested in how "projects" like these turn out.

Cheers!

Sweet bike. WAY better than anything I've got. But I dispute your title. I'd call it "bargain" bike. Budget bike is parts bin stuff. like Bucky's kilo.

Very nice, I also like to build bikes with very good second hand parts. A few years ago I built a TT bike for IMC and rode just over 5 hours, total cost of bike was around $600 without wheels. I can afford to buy new but it seems silly to spend over $1,500.

Took her for an evening 20 miler last night. Man, it climbs like nothing I've ever ridden and absorbs shock for a ride like buddah. Never had anything above shimano 105 so the ultegra shifting was pure bliss. I've only dreamt of a ride this nice. Why I waited so long to go Carbon I will never know. In the words of Ferris Beuler "If you have the means I highly reccomend it". 100 miles this saturday will be the true test, but so far I'm 100% satisfied.

Good job. You can really do a nice build at relatively low cost if you take your time and understand the market.
