Zipp’s new Low-Stack Extension Clamp

Hi BH,

I’m based in Devizes/Swindon in Wiltshire. It’ll definitely be like an early Christmas present if you can sort this out.

Thanks for picking this up.

Chris.

Hello Chris
They will make a great early Christmas present!!
We have a dealer in Swindon called Mitchell Cycles or Stonehenge Cycles in Salisbury that will be able to help you.
Both will be able to order the part in from our b2b system using our part number ZPHBE15000
If you need any more help let me know.
Thanks

Hi Ben

Do you have any photos of these in use in the real world? How much tilt adjustment do they provide for the pads/extensions? Thanks.

Hi Ben

You lose the tilt adjustment with these clamps. But the regular ones only have 3 degrees plus or minus tilt adjustment so you’re not losing that much. (I’ve seen them advertised as having 6 degrees but that’s a total of the plus and minus tilt. And not sure why anyone would ever use negative tilt.) I have the Vuka aero which uses a regular stem so I have a slight tilt to the bar as a whole, doubt it’s really costing me any speed. With the Vuka stealth you have no tilt at all. The Zipp armpads are pretty comfortable so you might be OK with level armpads and then getting your tilt by using the appropriate extension.

I could take a pic but not sure it would be that helpful as I’m using them in a non-kosher manner in the narrow position which isn’t supposed to be possible. They required a couple of washers on either end to raise them up enough to clear the bar, and the armpad clamps can only be used either in front or behind of the extension clamps, I have them in front. With the wide position you wouldn’t have that limitation.

There is no tilt adjustment as previously stated. This was a sacrifice made to get the lowest possible stack.
Regardless, here are some pics from the wild.

Are these still only available through dealers, or can we buy these directly from Zipp? I didn’t see them on the online store, but perhaps a phone call would work. Thanks!

Only available from dealers, I called Zipp and that’s where they sent me. Arrived in about a week to my LBS.

Yep, through your dealer. Order this: 11.6618.015.000 HB EXT CLAMP LOPRO VSTLTH OR VAERO

So awesome. Thanks guys, and thanks for helping to make this part. I had forgotten about it and was thinking that I might have to buy a cockpit to get lower, but this will probably get me to where I need to go. I wish the Vuka also had tilt adjustment but ski bends might help angle my arms up if the pads are comfortable.

I have one lying around, ordered double. Took some pictures, maybe it helps.

Having a hell of a time trying to source a set of these low-stack clamps either new or used. Would be nice to be able to purchase direct from Zipp on this item.

I have a set pm me

I have a set pm me

PM sent. Thanks.

I’m in the same boat…looking for a set. They were on Zipp’s site a couple of weeks ago, but no longer.

I’m sorry I don’t have more sets. It took me 6 months to order through Zipp Italy. Good luck finding any.

I was able to order a set through my LBS last summer without difficulty, for whatever reason Zipp will not directly source this part. Unfortunately I’ve since stripped one of them despite never going over the max torque spec. I had problems with the extensions rotating and was just barely able to stop that at maximum torque. Hope I can get them to not rotate at less than max torque as I’ll have to go lower now. Haven’t replaced the clamps yet, went back to the LBS, they told me that small parts warranty had to be done directly through Zipp, then Zipp said that was wrong and I had to go back to the LBS, just haven’t gotten back there yet.

Can’t say I’m at all impressed with Zipp’s vaunted engineering based on this experience. If they were going to make such a minimal clamp without a lot of thread depth they should have used helicoils but I suppose that costs too much (oh wait, these were $60 parts, I mean really?).

anybody know how to get a set of these?

Not sure if you tried your LBS but they are listed on page 26 of the Zipp spare parts catalog part number 11.6618.015.000 and could probably order them for you. I am going to call mine tomorrow and see if they can and will let you know.

My local bike shops are shit, they don’t care about those one off pieces , just care about selling the bikes off the shelf. Sucks

Looking for a set, anyone have a spare one?
Thank you.
