New Cervélo Áspero

My bike weighs 18.7 lbs. I have a Teal Aspero custom build with 2x GRX Di2, 3T Discus 45 wheels (GravelKing SK 43s), Superghiaia bar. That is without pedals.

Cervelo has a BBright bottom bracket so you’ll need the BB30 carbon Quarq

.

What size is your custom build that weighs 18.7? I’m looking at a similar build, GRX Di2 but using Easton EC90 SL cranks and a power2max power meter instead of the GRX stuff (and using Ultegra FD for chainline consistency).

Sorry 54
.

Thanks TOTRI - that is a full pound less than a warbird.

Thanks. they were out of stock on the 172.5s, so going without power at least for now

It will be a while before I can afford to drop a few grand on a set of Enve 4.5’s for this bike as a n+1 wheelset. In the meantime, what would be a good wheelset option for road riding? Is it as simple as riding the stock wheels and swapping out the tires?

Just ordered Reynolds ATR Carbon wheels for my Aspero. $1299 for the pair.

Cheap(ish) alloy option: https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/cycling-components/bike-wheels/road-bike-wheels/bontrager-paradigm-comp-25-tlr-disc-road-wheel/p/27391/?colorCode=black

are you going to use them for road+gravel? or road only?

thank you!

Nasty weather road and gravel. Have an R5 for nice weather road.

I’ll be curious your thoughts on the ATR - as I’m considering those for a road/gravel build as well. They seem a good value on paper atleast

Will do. Don’t hold your breath though as I’m a northerner, and ski season is upon us. I do have plenty of experience with AR29 road wheels and they are very solid from a materials standpoint. I’d rate them a 7 to 8 out of 10 for build quality. That’s on par with Zipp and Shimano’s that I’ve owned. HED’s were the best - 10 out of 10 build quality.

I certainly don’t see enough added value in $3000+ wheels to justify the added expense. I’d prefer to have 2 sets of wheels with tires, and change in my pocket.

Agreed- the “value” carbon wheels are nearly as good these days- can’t justify 2x the cost for Enve. I’m considering the Reynolds or Bontrager Aeolus 3V

I’d look at building up some from Light Bicycle. I’ve had some of their Rim Brake wheels and have been pleased with them. I’ve used them on my canti cross bike for gravel races as well. 82kg and haven’t cracked one yet.

I’ve got the Bontrager Aeolus 3V. I unfortunately only got three rides on them before winter hit so likely won’t get more time on them until March. But first impression riding as well as visually inspecting them, putting on tires, etc, etc was good. Super wide, make my Hed Jet plus look skinny.

Do you think the 25mm width is too big for running 30-38mm tire? I don’t really see myself going bigger than 38, maybe 40 on very rare occasion

I was a little tentative about going that wide at first. But enve 3.4 and 4.5 users always seem to rave about those wheels which have the same internal width. I went for the Bontragers since they’re $1500 cheaper and have a hooked rim so I’m not forced to run tubeless tires. My set came in at 1553 grams (717g front and 836g rear) which is slightly less than advertised

I’ve got some 32mm Gravel King slicks and they measure 34mm on these (they measured 31mm on the 19mm internal rims they were previously on). They look like they have a nice profile to them. I think a 30mm Schwalbe would be a great aero match with this rim. I’m thinking I’ll getting some GP5000 32mm in the spring.

I figured I’d put up some pictures of Front and Rear clearance on the Aspero with 650 x 47c WTB Venture Tires. These measure ~47mm on the Shimano GRX 650b wheelset. Looking at it now, the front image is taken at a poor angle that makes it look like there is no clearance to spare, I’d say it’s closer to the rear where there’s 5mm+ on either side.
