I can't believe that I am about to write this. But here it goes. If someone needs something other than triathlon to help them get into shape or get into better overall physical condition, I see no harm done. Especially in the off season. Now if you were to do this during your heavy training for an IM or in season then I think you would find that it could detract from your ability to recover and/or/plus do the specific work needed for triathlon. If triathlon is a goal and something you do to have fun, stay fit, meet nice people, help you enjoy life and you are not consumed by going fast/getting faster than do it. After all there is more to fitness than just S/B/R, I think.
