Potential For Racing
Hi,

I’m 16 and just did a sprint triathlon in 1:22:33/ Swim 14:14, T1 2:13, Bike 40:32, T2 2:16, Run 23:18

The course was all flat but the bike was 21km with 334m of elevation gain, I also finished with enough energy to probably double the run distance because I was unsure of the pacing of it all.

I’m reasonably fit, I did this time, off 4 weeks of 5hr training weeks. I’m primarily a social runner with a 5km pb of 19:02 off about 28km per week. I’ve never had competitive swim experience either. I now really enjoy triathlon and have an almost unlimited amount of time to dedicate to it. I want to compete in my states all schools triathlon next year, which the winners time this year was 58 minutes for sprint distance which is obviously unattainable for me due to my poor swimming. But I know for sure I can make big improvements on the bike, run, transitions and some minor ones on the swim. I’m purely wondering if anyone thinks its possible in a year of solid training I would be able to get down to a sub 1:03:00 sprint triathlon, because this would at least make me somewhat competitive in the all schools state triathlon.

Also I want to try my hand at some longer distance triathlon in the future but I think slowly building through the distances keeping myself competitive is a better approach.
