Re: Breast Implants and Triathlon [triforcookies]
I know someone (who doesn't post on here) that is a top age grouper who had hers done several years ago. She was A cup and wanted a B cup. Unfortunately, she ended up with a C+ cup. I guess the doctor decided to enhance her request or something. Anyway, the biggest impact to her speed was in swimming because of the cutting of the pectoral muscles (inserts put under the muscles, like in Pirategirl's case). She ended up with a season of compensating in her stroke due to the surgery so slowed down a little. Next winter, she worked carefully on her stroke and did some other re-hab of the area and is just as fast as ever in the swim and even faster on the bike and run now (related to training, not the boob job). More recently, she became fed up with the C+ cup size and had the surgeon replace with a more natural-looking size. This particular surgery required a lot less recovery than the initial one.

I guess the lessons in her story for you would be:

1. Decide if potentially several weeks of recovery is consistent with your goal to go pro next year, or if you're willing to take the risk that your performance may be negatively impacted. Maybe it won't, but likely it will. It depends on your priorities and reasons for moving up to the pro field.
2. If you do get work done, make sure you communicate clearly with your surgeon about what your desired size is and that he/she better not do something different than what you request.

All my best!

Yes, I too am on Facebook. And LinkedIn. And Twitter. Which begs the question - do I exist in the physical world? Do I?
