training after tooth extraction

normally i know when this is going to happen (had upper molar and wisdom teeth our earlier this year) but last night at dentist we found a fractured root and he took it out. i had a 2-hr run and 5-hr bike planned this weekend. he says nothing for 3-4 days but he is very conservative. he said that there was a little bit of infection and i'm on amoxicilin. already i can tell this morning that this is a cake walk compared to the wisdom teeth - no pain this am, no swelling, no blood, etc.

this is the first time i put a long run at the weekend - normally i do those midweek. so that will teach me. i know no run today but would an easy 2-hour ride cause a higher chance of a dry socket? dentist grudgingly agreed wtih tomorrow's ride but i could tell it wasn't his first choice. i've had a number of extractions - this one has been super easy - incisor.

any idea of chances of complications if i rode easy today? TIA!

maxillary or mandibular tooth? (top or bottom?)
if maximally(top) you're probably ok. depending on if it's a lower, you're more likely for a dry socket.
any bone grafting done?

(i'm a dentist)

i'd just tell you not to be stupid

I had something very similar done last spring. Bottom molar, broken root in a tooth that had a root canal. Had to remove bone to get at it.

After about 3 days I was back to training as usual. For 2 days I was taking Norco and it helped with the pain.

As a side note: I bought a bike frame on Ebay while taking the Norco :)

I had #19 out about a year ago. I took a day off and was back to normal the day after that. It definitely was inflamed and swollen, which I felt when my HR got up, but no serious complications. The bigger issue was not playing with the stitches.
