Very specific question for any of you who have used the Schwinn MPower Performance spin bikes (with ANT+) consol in a GROUP setting.

After reading DC Rainmakers review I thought it might be interesting to attempt to pair HR and my Garmin 510 to the new bikes my club just got as I taught the class since they are giving wattage info and write a .TCX .

I realized the problem immediately, the head unit picked up ALL the other bikes ANT+ since people were warming up already and told me to move 20m away and pair again (HR worked fine but a fellow rider watched my HR the whole time as well since his display picked it up)

Obviously moving wasn't an option, and yeah, I could try to pair before everyone came, but what happens when multiple people want to pair as class starts? Has this ever happened to anyone? Solutions?

Since I'm in the northeast and most of us head indoors to ride for the winter, I'd love to teach a class with Watts for tri and cyclists but am concerned with the pairing issue if people want to bring their computers. Is the USB stick the only reasonable option?

I think you'll need to go in at a time when no one is there and write down the ant+ device numbers that each bike is transmitting and write it down or label each bike. That way you can either enter it directly into the device or when all the bikes come up as devices you'll know that the one you are on is bike "62946".

If you can choose a bike at a quiet time and pair it to your 510, it'll add those sensor(s) to the sensor pool and when you use that bike again it should just pick up those straight away, right? As long as you don't start searching for sensors again it should work fine. Obviously this means you need to use the same bike for each session, but I try to do this anyway because I find that the ones that my gym use vary a LOT in the numbers and resistance that they give you. If your gym booking system allows you to book specific bikes for the session then it makes that a whole load easier; my regular one doesn't but I've been to a couple that have and always thought it was a good idea!

And as for everyone else, I find that other people in the class aren't usually as concerned with logging their data as I am, but the ones that are will make the effort to sort it out.

ANT+ has two ways to connect to a device:
-Search for ANY device with the type (powermeter or HRM or speed/cadence or whatever) you specify. This is great when you're at home, but terrible in a group.
-Search for a device with the exact ANT+ ID (and type) you specify

Personally, I'd just poke around the bike in question and see if the ANT+ ID is written somewhere, then manually enter it.

My gym has these spin bikes too, I paired a couple of them to my 910xt. The main problem I had is that none of the power meters were properly setup, so they were all reading differently.
Google for the manual and it gives you the instructions for calibrating the power meter (zero and spin down)

I got sick of trying to get the same bike(s) and gave up in the end

Great question. I can't really see why they. Wouldn't be. If they Re putting out +ant and your receiver is picking it up, why not? Maybe some one has this setup
