What's wrong with this bike?
It seems like I have seen this bike on Craigslist for the last few months. Tried to look it up on Bicycle Blue Book, looks like "new" today it would be $3300, but I don't know that all the components match. Is this bike as good of a deal as it appears to be?

$1200 tops. You'd be better off buying a new Felt B14 for that price... Judging by the photos, I'm guessing it doesn't include the Quarq anymore (since he has other chain rings in the last photo).

Just a year ago I bought a brand new, off the shelf Specialized Transition with similar but not identical components for $1800.

.

Once, I was fast. But I got over it.

Not 8 grand. Even at that age id say 5grand tops. It's not a SHIV.

That's more $1400 to me.

The S-Works Transitions were 8 grand new at MSRP when they came with Zipp Vuka Bars, Zipp 404s, S-works cranks and rings and when SRAM Red was brand new. obviously 10 speed SRAM Red is no longer very exciting...

As a transition owner one area you always look for damage on used bikes is the tip of the wing-ish flange on the down tube behind the fork. Damage in this area is very common and is not a problem but SHOULD be clearly listed in any add as its very obvious in person. This bike appears to have significant damage to the wing and the fact that it isn't even mentioned raises red flags about what else hasn't been mentioned. Also I paid $1900 for a brand new transition in 2009 (the lower frame module but very similar build) so $1800 is a lot of money. In the price range of that Transition you can get new better equipped bikes e.g. (https://www.mybikeshop.com/bikes?product_id=852). I also see there is a 2010 size M S-works transition which has just been added to mybike shop which probably still comes with the Zipps for a similar price.

Thanks for all the responses and advice, folks. To be clear, posting on here is as close as I came to actually inquiring about the bike. This brings me to another question though, aside from posting on here, what's the best way to determine what a used bike is worth? As I mentioned in the original post, I looked it up on http://www.bicyclebluebook.com, which I knew was going to be a limited resource, since you can't customize the components or anything, and it seemed to not include a lot of frames. My wife's old 2003 Softride Lite isn't on there. So, if I'm digging through Craigslist or Ebay, how am I to know if something looks like a good deal, too good to be true or a smart buy?

You started in the right place (bikepedia is another equivalent option) because the first thing I would always recommend is looking to see what has changed from stock. 95% of the time and changes will be listed as 'upgraded' even if the components have gotten worse. You see this often enough with wheels and saddles where for whatever reason the wheel set has been changed but not upgraded yet they list the retail price of the current wheels as as though they added value to the bike. If a lot of parts have been swapped around I would also be concerned about a crash history. It's important to remember used components can be had for very cheap on eBay so very few aftermarket changes add significant value to the bike.
Personally I use Planet X as a standard for price comparison. The reason being they are good value for money and have bikes broadly comparable to pretty much everything else on the market. If I'm buying used its because I want great value for money and that means beating the offering from Planet X. At the moment I don't actually own a PX bike so I'm not advocating the brand per say but I wouldn't buy a used name brand bike if I can get a new one at the same price

Contrary to what everyone seems to be saying, if this price includes the power meter shown in the pics, it's actually a pretty good deal. A new Quarq spider for that crank sells for $1000, a used one of that vintage is worth about 1/2 that (if you can find it).

No, the bike is not as good a deal and the seller appears to misrepresent and the photos are borderline deceptive.

Unless you can actually look at the bike (fork damage?), I'd stay away.
