Wes Anderson

I know he can be pretty polarizing as a writer and director. What's the Lavender Room's opinion? Personally, I love every movie I've seen by him which includes all but Rushmore, Bottle Rocket, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. I'm hoping to watch those three over the next couple weeks.

I'm not sure if it's the dry bizarre comedy or artistic style, but something connects with me.

Fantastic Mr. fox is on my top ten all time best movies list.

It's all pretty good stuff. My favorite is Life Aquatic, which seems to not be one of his core fan favorites. Grand Budapest was really good as well.

Haven't seen all his stuff so can't really claim to be a fan/follower, but really really like 'Life Aquatic' a lot.

My favourite was Moonrise Kingdom - funny, sweet (except the dog getting hit, which was jarring)

I may just not be remembering it in Moonrise Kingdom, but there was the jarring seen in The Royal Tanenbaums when the dog got hit, which is probably my favorite film of his. Sure you don't have your movies mixed up? Moonrise Kingdom was the one about the two pubescent kids falling in love and running away, set on an island off of Maine.

But these are his two best.

Bottle Rocket, because it was his first. I remember going to see it when it first came out and it was so refreshing.
Rushmore, I think it is a masterpiece. Although I like what he has done after the movies don't seem really different or better, he is just continuing his style.

I didn't mean I like all but those two.
I meant I've seen all but those two.
I expect to like them both and will rent them soon.

Well then you are in luck, you saved the best for last.

However, Bottlerocket is kind of like old Scorcese (e.g. Mean Streets). When you see it now
you are kind of like, Meh. When you put it in the context of when it came out and no one
was making movies like they do now then you understand the brilliance.
Bottlerocket is still really funny in my mind, just the psychology of the characters and how
they all have such a warped view of reality from an outsiders perspective.

Well, he also kills a cat in Grand Budapest, so maybe he just hates household pets in general.

also a fan. I had seen several of his flicks and at first glance was not into them.
Then came the Fabulous Mr. Fox. THAT was the one that did me in. I can watch that movie over and over again.
I love his use of repeat characters.
One that is not mentioned, which is my second fav is the Darjeeling Limited.

I consider Royal Tenenbaums the greatest film ever made. Yes, you read that right.

On so many levels. We watch it at least once a year. It provides inspiration and energy for us, with our own projects.

A brilliant directorial achievement.

We love Fantastic Mr. Fox too. We own very few movies but that is one of them and we watch it about once a year. Both my hubby and I love Wes Anderson films.

Poor Estoban. Whenever we go diving I tell the guide I want to see a jaguar shark. Most of them laugh.
