Maybe look for a motel in Tupper Lake? Likely not to be the best lodging, but not a bad drive to the Hannaford's parking lot across from Placid Planet where you used to be able to catch a shuttle. I just threw my cross bike in the car and rode from there to the transition area. Malone and Plattsburgh are an hour away and have chain hotels.

The National Sports Academy is right across from T1 and has very cheap rates!
