Anyone know of good pool swimming in Carlsbad, CA? Will be heading there in Jan for 1/2 marathon, would like to swim while thereÉ. Also open water if I bring wetsuit are there any recommended beaches with calm swimming water?

there are two main pools in Carlsbad, both city run. The Monroe St pool is right next to Carlsbad High School, great 25m pool and usually a lane available. We have a newer pool that opened in the last year, the Alga Norte pool. Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings it is set up long course, the rest of the time it is 25y set up. The Carlsbad Masters swim program is out of this pool with weekday workouts at 6am, noon and 6pm. Both pools offer drop in rates, think Alga Norte is $5 and Monroe $4. Masters is $7 I think. I swim primarily at Monroe.

Beaches with calm swimming water, we are on the ocean so there is always some sort of break. Once you swim out past the break it is usually calmer. Beach anywhere between Tamarack going north to Carlsbad Village is good. Swim out 100 yards and the go north or south parallel to shore.
