the situation is actually not that bad. basically, the most vocal of the NIMBYs probably live close to a 3-block, uphill stretch along a 2-lane road leading out of Alexandria. The section is rather narrow as is, and the few local residents are quite up-in-arms about it. really nothing to see here, especially when the city itself is quite in favor of cycling

No doubt it's not that bad, it never is, it's just a bike lane. But to stoop to such a low level, and not even on a anonymous Internet forum, that was the shocking part

yeah, basically going Goodwin on the first salvo. The ability of most of carry out cogent debates is quite woeful, and for some, apparently any analogy is apropos...

I like the last bit:

Bike owners have already been equated with terrorists and Nazis, so let’s just knock out the list of other things you shouldn’t compare them to:

  • ISIS
  • Ebola
  • Vladimir Putin
  • Fiscal austerity
  • Narcostates
  • Child labor traffickers
  • Climate change
  • Invasive fish species
  • Planet-killing asteroids
  • Obamacare
  • Ivory poachers
  • Kaijus
  • FIFA
After seeing John Oliver's bit on FIFA we really don't want to be compared to them!

I think Nazis had much nicer looking kit than most cyclists.

That story just points out the obvous in that in order for bicycling infrastructure to improve, automibile infustructure must be reduced and this means turing traffic lanes into bike lanes and the removal of parking. The parking issue is were motorists lose their fuckin minds. I feel that reducing automobile infrastructure (narrowing roads, removing parking) and improving pedestrian and cycling infrastructure (wider side walks, nice looking safe streets, seperated bike lanes) is the way to go.

That's because they were made by Hugo Boss.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

Hitler may have ridden a bike on occasion but the several books I've read on his role in the Great War have stated that he was a runner in the trenches, running from trench to trench, diving to avoid incoming shells and gunfire. He did find the Great War to be the most exhilarating time of his life though, that is well documented.

Bill Blass was on our side though.

He's mentioned in a documentary about the 603rd.

Quote:
In 1942, Blass enlisted in the Army. He was assigned to the 603rd Camouflage Battalion with a group of writers, artists, sound engineers, theater technicians, and other creative professionals. Their mission was to fool the German Army into believing the Allies were positioned in fake locations. They did this by using recordings, dummy tanks, and other false materials. He served in this unit at several major operations including the Battle of the Bulge, the Rhine River crossing, Sicily, the Normandy breakout, and North Africa.

Hugo Boss is over priced junk anyway. never got why people liked paying $800 for a fused suit when you can get half-canvassed for $500-600

Drivers are like nazi's. Cars are destroying the earth and health. One of the worst things to come out of humanity. Oil causes war, pollution, and harms the human health in the end. 90% of arrests are made from traffic stops & it takes an absurd amount of money to obtain a car, maintain it, insurance, gasoline. I refuse to drive my car anymore. I'll drive again once electric cars are affordable because in they take the same amount of resources to manufacture as a gas car.

In the future, wars will be fought over uranium. Or access to the wind and sun.
