Carb Depletion/Carb Load Before Marathon
I am doing Chicago in less than two weeks and plan to do the carb depletion/carb load diet the week before. I did it last year before my marathon and had a great day and also experimented with it before a half marathon during my build for Chicago and it went well. What I'm not sure about is when you switch from all protein to all carbs. Chicago is Sunday so should it go (1) all protein M/T/W and then all carbs R/F/S OR (2) all protein M/T/W and then Thursday be more of a mix of protein and carbs and then Friday and Saturday are just all carbs? I did option (1) before my marathon last year and option (2) before my half this year. Maybe it doesn't matter (I guess some would argue this entire diet doesn't matter...) and both are equally effective? And how much fat (as a percentage of calories) should there be in these two phases?

Clearly I am tapering and making myself crazy...

Don't worry about percentages. Muscle glycogen restoration is a matter of getting adequate carbohydrate (eating protein won't hurt, it just isn't necessary).

Be careful with the running to depletion though.

People still advocating the depletion part? My track coach in the 70's had us doing it but I thought it had fallen out of favor. I guess what's old is new.
