Anyone going to get this & use it racing in Kona? Available Oct. 5.
The Black edition looks pretty super high def...any chance Go Pro would be

How many people do you know have 4k screens? I don't know a single person that does.

It's on sale at best buy right now, I've used REI's 20% off coupon in the past to get it a bit lower.

I don't think I'd count on many still being around for the holidays, there's a reason they've been on sale a lot this year.

Hmmm, my local Target doesn't have them on sale. I'll have to check that out at Best Buy, thanks. I have a local REI so I'll have to check that out too. It may be a killer way to get a Go Pro cheap!

I'd like to have one on my bike sometimes, out in the farm roads with the douchery that comes in the form of a pick up truck yelling & swerving at us to get off their roads. All you need is a license plate, face & clearly see/hear what they do for a few seconds & your case is made. It's a good form of protection & support should they get too out of hand & show road rage galore. Too bad Richie Cunningham didn't have one on his bike--Dirk Friel did, good move!

Quite a few
Usually they require them for work purposes, but many use them for gaming as well.
And in reality, you can never have a big enough workspace. (and by that, I am referring to res, not inches)
considering a number of laptops are starting to move towards 1440p, and netflixs etc. are starting to offer 4k content, I only expect that the general take up of 4k will happen soon. Then you look at Dell who are getting ready to release a 5k 30"(ish) screen for general use (guess I know what my next panel will be) - Well - The world is looking good :D

(And I keep meaning to grab a GoPro - guess I know what I will be buying now)

Wish they'd give a list of where all those videos are from, some pretty rad stuff in there.

Me neither, but I know that everyone who has ever taken a digital picture have cropped a few and been unimpressed at the resulting pixelation. If the sensor is good enough, you can crop and reframe 4K video into native 1080p. That's the point of 4K. Later, when the 4K tvs are the norm, RED will be another step ahead.

A better question is how many people have DECENT 4K screens

Dell makes a 4k screen larger monitor that sells for around $700 but it is a piece of crap. I much prefer my ASUS Art. The question becomes do you need a billion colors and solid performance or do you just want more pixels and don't care. While I still think Eizo monitors are over priced, they are extremely solid when it comes to color calibration, fidelity and performance.

Next biggest question... Do you plan on EDITING your footage. It is one thing to load standard HD into Adobe Premier or similar and even that can be a challenge to encode video sometimes if I am using a lot of transitions and effects.

Hell some people have great monitors capable of pushing the 1.07 Billion colors but have crappy video cards and only get 16.7 million colors. There will always be early adopters but you can bet on needing a lot of processing power and a lot of ram to effectively edit 4K video

I believe that there are better cameras for this than gopro. Specifically you would want something with a longer battery life and possibly an easy way to externally power it. I imagine there are better ways to loop data than gopro does too.

I have 5 of them. 4 on the wall behind me, and another one 2 feet in front of my face.

Asking a question like this is akin to asking how many people have DVD players when everybody was still using a VCR. :)

Not yet there isn't. Certainly not in the sports camera category. I have a Sony 4K camera right beside me, however, I wouldn't want to attempt to take it into the water.
Speculation is Sony will have a camera with the same specs/better battery out in the spring.

I too would love to see anything along the lines you recommend that will outperform the gopro.

He is describing some kind of camera on the bike for police reports, the segment is sometimes referred to as safety cameras. So yes, there is. As for your 4k Sony, I don't see why that's relevent and couldn't care less.

Gopro is ok with 1 hour battery life on their cameras and prioritizes resolution. That makes it a crappy ride along camera on a bike, unless you like swapping batteries and sifting through giant files of useless video.

DCRainmaker has a review on this one.

And here is another after a simple google search. So I would encourage you to put a bit more thought into posting "no there isn't" in the future.

The owl is not an sport camera. And the fly 6 shoots at 720p. The new Hero Black shoots at 1080p at 120fps. My friend those aren't even in the same league as the gopro. But I completely agree the batteries are terrible.
Take a big breath, not sure why you took my response so personally. If the two prodcuts can shoot 4K at 30 fps then yes, they are in the same league. But the owl is more a monitor system than an action camera and the Fly6 isn't at the same level in terms of video output.

Just curious, have you ever filmed a time trial/TT? what about an IM length ride? I ask only because I've made >100 videos on the bike, and find that even in a crit or road race, you usually only end up with a couple minutes (if that) of footage that is interesting and watchable. And that's with corners, accelerations, other riders around...

My biggest issue is camera shake from rides. Even after using several tools to remove the shake it's still pretty annoying.

What bike are you riding? What kind of rides are you filming? And what camera and mount are you using?

Yeah the ability to enhance or see details when an image is enlarged is needless technology.

I'd just get a camera from the quickie mart that shut down in 1985 those should be all he needs..

The new GoPro Hero, not the silver or black edition, is only 1080p @30 and is only $130 if that helps fuel your arguments further.

Nope, not getting a camera for Kona, just thinking it would be nice to catch some of the near-death experiences I've so wanted to report to police when all I was doing was trying to get some exercise. Then out of the blue some pickup or country tractor drunk comes out of nowhere & does something rather road rage-ous like. Buzzing me within inches & yelling inches from my ear...or tossing a Big Gulp out the window (okay that happened on a run once). But you never know who will do what just because I'm trying to stay healthy.

I didn't see a thread on GO PRO 4 yet & wondered if anyone was going to get/use one & if they'll sell the 3 at blowout prices to push the 4. I've been thinking about getting one & my brother just bought one last week. Then days later, the 4 came out. It looks like a cool camera but only 1 hour battery life? I think my electric shaver has a longer life than that. The 4 @ 4K looks great though (the pictures).
