2014 Flo vs 2008 404's
i have a set of 404 zipps with alum brake track from 2008,

do you guys think if i sold these wheels and upgraded to current day tech flo, the current day flo is probably a better wheel than 2008 zipp since major technology advances, despite the brand. cannot afford to get modern day zipp tech.

hard to say as that clincher version of the old zipps wasn't featured a lot in wind tunnel tests, I think there was a reason for that!

I think it would be pretty significant, but can't be sure.

If you like to use narrow tires and bike pretty fast (short events or lots of talent), then not so significant, since yaw angles would be low.

Had the older Zipp 404s, and have the new Zipp Firecrests. Would say that changing a tire on the newer wider rims is hands down easier. I hated the old Zipps for that reason. I would imagine the Flo performs better too, compared to the old Zipps.

At that speed you won't see to much change.

I disagree, any wind and you will see a decent amount of yaw at those speeds.

I'm tempted to pick up a FLO 90 front for next year. I have a 2010 404 front now. BBS showed it lowered my CDA by 0.0033. At the same TSS, it actually predicted it would drop 3 minutes off my time for Kona.... though I think it's a bit optimistic on it's predictor and can;t accurately model the winds picking up and kicking your ass on the return leg. But the time savings is probably not too far off.

Hmmm.... Very appealing. Add a few more position tweaks and maybe a tririg front brake.... and if really ambitious, maybe a new front end.

Allright, summoning the power of best bike split and a lot of educated guessing I would say 20 seconds per 40k +/- 15 seconds with a 5mph wind.

About 50% more with a 10mph wind

Things might tend toward the high side of my guess with the pre-firecrest clinchers because their shape was compromised compared to the tubulars, see for instance:
