gps computer recommendation
Hi All,

I am interested in purchasing a new gps computer and need some advice from you pros.

Here is what I am looking for:
- gps enabled computer that would allow me to see my route
- upload to Strava
- on Bike - wireless, cadence, total mileage, speed, time, ave speed

I was first considering a watch but these are still a little too large for my small wrist. Now considering a cycling computer I can take on runs. So far I am looking at Garmin 500, 510 and 800. I would also like to swap from one bike to another easily.

Not so interested in heart rate monitor, power, or other bells and whistles that may end up costing me a lot more than I want to spend.

Any thoughts.
Thanks in advance!

Dcrainmaker has everything you could ever dream of knowing.

Short answer is, Garmin 800 if you need navigation.

I've tried running with an Edge 305 and an Edge 510 a couple of times when I forgot to charge my running watch or forgot it at home. It's not something I would recommend.

1) these devices can only display speed, not pace
2) there is no pace smoothing
3) you have to carry it in your hand since there is no wrist strap

I didn't mind carrying my 500 while running the few times I've done so.

Instant pace is basically a no-go like you said, but getting mile splits via auto-lap has been good enough for my purposes. I'm more interested in heart rate in real time, which of course is available.

I've seen a YouTube video of taking a standard Garmin twist mount and banding it to a watch strap as a 500 mount.
So, you don't have to carry it on a run.

I guess the issue for me with buying a watch is that I find they are all too large.
Any small watches that display the features I posted above in addition to pace while running?

I have checked out DC Rainmaker and his reviews are great. I find individual reviews per product are better once you have an idea of A vs. B. I'm starting from scratch so its nice to get personal recommendations.

Thanks again!

Keep in mind when looking for a "perfect" solution it don't exist.
Everything is a compromise.
