Yes, but riding lots without going into red generates great triathletes that drop like a lead weight with the first acceleration. And, btw, that first workout I mentioned (ride at 90% FTP, surge to L6, recover at 90%), is EXACTLY what you state - you are paying back the anaerobic loan with aerobic credits. Even the second workout I mentioned requires a longer recovery between intervals due to the >100% FTP loan being taken out.
Short term power is largely genetic. If you have a high percentage of fast twitch fibers your short term power numbers will be better. Riding a lot will improve your aerobic capacity and convert some of your muscles from fast to slow twitch but it's not going to convert a natural sprinter into a TT specialist. Those with a high percentage of slowtwitch fibers tend to gravitate to what they're good at which is riding at a steady pace. They didn't get that way from riding a lot, they were born that way and no amount of L6 training will turn them into a sprinter.

Well to be fair i can hit about 1350 or 1400 watts in a sprint.

I think you could say I am gifted in neuromuscular power as i rarely get beaten in 100M sprint (running).

I think the fact that i got dropped so badly was the lack of strategic placement and the unusual amount of acceleration combined with the lateral winds.

I did my second race ever yesterday and although the result is exactly the same, the way the game was played is entirely different. I managed to stay in the first 1/3 of the field for the first 3 laps and it was incredibly easy. After that i got lazy (i figured i was in good shape) and started to drift further to the back. Well i started to get caught lots of times at the back and needed a lot of acceleration to rejoin. well the next 3 laps dug a hole in my aerobic capacity and i got dropped in the 7th (of 9) loop.

I learned a lot and am starting to enjoy it more and more.

And boy is it a whole other level of suffering!
