Hed Wheels, what year?
Hi, Does anybody know what year these Hed Clinchers are?:

http://www.tritalk.co.uk/...ds_item.php?id=10405

Also, they look like like a wider rim, are they the newer 23mm rim?

Many thanks

The wider ones (23mm) are from 2009 and later I believe.
You can tell by the serial number.
I bought a set used, seller told me they were 2010. HED confirmed by serial number they were in fact 2009 but the same model.
Seller then gave me $50 discount.

I'll try and get the serial number of the wheels.
So do these look like the wider fairing shape? They certainly look a more bulbous shape than most rims to me.
Thanks

So the sequence of changes was

2009 wider C2 rim
2012 wider fairing

?

Any other changes ?

2012 also was the first year with unidirectional carbon fairing I believe. Any year prior had a weave. You can't miss the difference.

And with the unidirectional carbon came the "toroidal" shape I believe?

Forgot to ask, I assume the Jet wheels in the ad can be changed to a Shimano freehub?

I would guess 2008 or earlier. They may be 23 mm wide, but don't have the SCT shape and aren't particularly aero compared to the new ones.

Thanks for that, just had a message from HED, they believe the wheels to be 6-8 years old.
Also, not easy to change from Campag to Shimano, Andy from Hed said the wheel would need to be re-dished after.

Who much of a difference are we talking about here?
Ive got the first version of the C2's that came out and wonder how much "not so free" speed Im giving away?

If you search around you might be able to find HED's old wind tunnel results. The big difference was that drag didn't drop off nearly as much after about 7 degrees yaw. Maybe the drop was half of what the current wheels exhibit. Now the big drop seen with the current wheels may be do to using the Conti 4000s on the new wheels. I don't remember what was used in the 2009 testing and the Flo 30 testing shows the huge difference the wrong tire can make.

The first C2 wheels might be the worst ones. You don't have the option of great low yaw performance with a narrow tire, and you don't get the great high yaw performance of the new shape.

doh!

I don't know if that really applies in the "real world" as I ran one of the original C2 jet 90s with a bonty aerowingTT 19 tire on it to a fairly decent 29.3mph 39k. windy day too(as in hang on to your disk wheel when not on bike or watch it go flying on its own), and I haven't gotten back there yet for 40k

Oh, I'm sure it is hair splitting.
But how knows, you might have done 29.35mph that day with the narrower wheel!

Or maybe worse who knows. Just a guess.

yeah, only thing I can say is they were noisy. as in on training runs, other folks on bikes always thought a car was coming up behind them and would move over and then say, "oh, thought that was a car"
