Should I order the Castelli Body Paint SR Tri or the Free San Remo SS suit? Anyone in this thread tried them?

I have the Body Paint SR Tri, 2 of the older Body Paint Sleeveless Tri Suit, and a T1.

The Body Paint SR seems to have more wrinkles in the shoulder area than I would prefer, certainly more than the T1. I just did Vineman 70.3 a couple weeks back and went with the sleeveless suit with the T1 over. I wore the T1 under my wetsuit zipped about an inch up. Zipped up after the swim and kept it on for the run. Provided protection from the sun (my tan lines/sunburns are proof) and was probably the faster option on the bike vs the Body Paint SR Tri for me. I'll most likely keep racing with this combo and maybe just use the BP SR for training.

Both suits have sleeves and seem so similar that I can't figure out what makes one better than the other. I also have a Castelli T1 stealth top.

I've seen them both side by side and the only real noticeable difference that I thought made an impact was the Free Sanremo has elastic grippers in the arms vs the body paint is just the thin fabric, which I think someone else has mentioned in here earlier, tends to roll up when wet. I cant understand why the Free would have this feature and the BP does not.

The Castelli rep told me that the Body Paint was the "higher end" suit compared to the San Remo.

Did they list out the major differences? I understand the BP is supposed to be the higher end product, it's priced around $50 higher everywhere I see.

From the email.

Hello Bryan,

See below for a comparison chart on the two suits. The Free Sanremo suit is worn by most of our professional athletes. It’s made with a lighter fabric which dries quicker and has a mesh back. The Body Paint is nearly seamless, and has an integrated gripper.

I wore a 1 off (ahh the advantages of running Aerocamp which we have another one coming up in August fwiw) speed suit for my last IM. I swam with it around my waist, pulled it up by the time I got to the changing tent. Compared to a normal tri kit maybe :30 slower in T1. In T2 I changed completely. Hardest thing was getting my singlet on. I got in/out of the changing tent more or less with everyone else that came into the tent with me.

Total time loss was maybe 1min, 1.5min max over not wearing it between both transitions. I know what the suit is worth over my race kit that I changed into. Even at 1.5 min slower in transition, I'm still ahead of where I would have been.

The San remo suit is supposedly faster because it use different materials and is a tighter fit. I own both and have raced in both and have been comfortable.

Yeah I think I'm going to get the San Remo. It has the same fabric as the T1 Stealth

Yes but the T1 has different fabric on the arms... which makes a big difference.

I talked with a Castelli rep to the point of annoying him to death and he really pushes the T1 over the suits if you care about aero.

I'm personally waiting for Castelli to make a tri version of the San Remo Speedsuit (3.0? ... whatever the newest is). It fits perfectly and is stupid fast.

I just love the fact the San Remo has a full zipper on it. I really don't want a half zip or 3/4 zip after using the Pearl Izumi Octane. Full zip only!

That's why I went with the LG M2. I'd rather wear Castelli but based on my conversation with the rep, none of their trisuits are especially "fast".

Well...it does depend on other factors. You would need to test in the wind tunnel or at ERO to confirm

Correct.. which can be said about every suit. So, as Jim at ERO said, "if you're not going to test, you're safest bet is the M2"

VergeSport.com ( http://www.vergesport.com/...-ss/?man#description) makes an awesome road/tri friendly Carrera Suit that picks up on the traditional skinsuit design but it opens ala "flaps" so its easy to pee and really have an open chest like a cycling jersey. Still 2 pockets in the back. 100% custom art too .
