Is anybody using the Torpedo with a Garmin 800/810? I know the computer mount that comes with it won't work, but I'm wondering if anybody else has made it work with a third party mount.

I'm using an 800 with the supplied mini-mount, and have raced with this setup a couple of times now. I know I'm not supposed to do that and yes the bottle and computer are crammed together, but hey it works. There's no room for a barfly with how my tape wrap runs so for now this will have to do. Someone at X-Lab told me at Interbike that they're working on a solution. Anyone know more about that? Candice can you share?

Hey if it works for you that is great! As far as the solution we talked about at Interbike, we can't say too much as we are still in the design phase, but here is a sneak peak from our 2014 catalog.

BTW I am actually, and finally, taking a vacation, but don't worry we won't be silent on Slowtwitch! Damon will be taking over for a bit while I am away. His username is XLAB :)

What am I looking at here? I'm planning on purchasing the Torpedo system soon, should I wait until this comes out or is this strictly an aftermarket product? I use a Garmin 800 so it seems like this is the solution to use both the Torpedo and the 800?

Enjoy your vacation!

This is a cutaway section of a solid modeling model of the new computer mount. It will definitely be an aftermarket product that will be available for purchase. We are focusing on the design right now so haven't made a decision whether it will replace the current computer mount that comes with the Torpedo System. As far as waiting for this to come out, I cannot tell you when it will be available as we are still designing it, but I can say we are in the final design stages :)

Sorry couldn't be too much help. Definitely enjoy my vacation, but long flight ahead! Alright passing the torch onto Damon now :)

Hi Bricklayer, if you wanted to, you could slide the Torpedo Cage back further with the Aero Cage Optimizer http://www.xlab-usa.com/...-cage-optimizer.html. That should give you clearance for your Garmin 800. It would raise your bottle a bit, but you could always compensate by taking out, or using shorter spacers on the Torpedo System. It would give you up to 1.75 inches more clearance, which should be more than enough.

Thanks,

Damon

Ooo nice Damon that looks like it would do the trick. Actually raise the bottle a bit to make it easier to drink. Higher CG but I'll take that for everything to play nice in my cockpit. :) Just ordered one. Thanks.

Next question: I got a lot of rattle on a rough road during a race yesterday. It was from movement between the bottle and cage I believe. Any ideas for how I can dampen or eliminate that?

Also, can I call or write in to get a replacement hole plug for the top? Lost mine already. Thank you.

Hi Kat, you could try this mount from SRM and mount it directly to the Torpedo Mounts front slot. https://shop.srm.de/...f42a0dd5131d9ae3b7c1

Thanks,

You could get the 810 to hide behind the bottle better rather than sticking up over it, by sliding the computer mount back just a little bit. The 810 won't fit in front of the bottle due to its size, so if the setup works for you then that's great.

Thanks,

Damon

Hi Damon and Candice

I thought i read it somewhere online but i've lost the page... Can you confirm the torpedo 100 and/or 400 will both work with the new 2014 trek speed concept?

thanks

I bought and had to return my new Torpedo bottle. My local bike shop was unable to install your product on my XS 650-sized tri bike because it was too big to fit. Since I feel like I am now an endangered species (petite triathlete) I understand that you may not see sufficient market share to redesign, but I thought I would ask anyway about a bracket or adaptation to fit ALL bike sizes.

Hey,

Yes it will work. There are 2 ways we have seen it done. Mount directly to the aerobar with the Torpedo Mini Mount Plate or the spacers included in the system. We haven't personally tested them, but the 2 customers seemed happy :)

Hey,

Sorry your bike shop wasn't unable to install it. We designed the Torpedo bottle using 4 different aerobar setups. Ironically I was the smallest setup and the one that is a short ass :) I am 5'4 (rounded up of course) and ride a 51 Cervelo P2. For mine I still have the ends of my bars on so we fitted the mount over my stem. Cait Snow as you may know is another pint size athlete and she uses a Torpedo System.

I would like to see if I can find a way to get it on your bars if that's ok? Would you mind emailing me a picture of your aerobar/stem setup and then I will probably ask for some measurements, but we can do that after the picture. See what I am working with :) Email is candice@xlab-usa.com.

Everything you need to mount is included. There are links in my last post. 'Torpedo Mini Mount' was a link as was 'spacers included in the system'. I didn't want to paste big images here so you can click on it and will open to a big image.

I raced with the Torpedo BTA bottle for the first time at an IM last weekend. I am very impressed with it. The bite block makes it easy to drink from. I used the solid cap and found it easy to refill the bottle. Great product.

Looking at the pictures, it looks like with the spacers picture there is no computer mount? And then with the mini mount picture which does allow you to have a computer, is the mini mount zip tied to the front of the aerobars? Or is it attached another way?

Re: New X-Lab Torpedo BTA Bottle [stanlives] [ In reply to ]

Correct. The Mini Mount allows you to have the included Computer mount on there. Otherwise you would need a barfly style mount. Yes ziptied at the front securing the front end of the mount to the aerobars. It is also secured by bolts right underneath the cage which goes into the aerobar. The zipties are to stabilize the mount before to support the weight of the computer mount. Otherwise it would bounce around a lot.

Any news on the Delta 400 yet? Any initial drawings you can release? Also, any single carriers known to work with the ism attack yet?

Hey Zach!

No more news beyond the clip from the catalog that I shared. We are still finalizing the design. As far as the ISM Attack this Delta 400 will work :) Early in the new year I am planning on having more updates on the carrier. Stay tuned and Happy Holidays!
