I have an older model - 2013. Like I said, I cut a piece from the extra seat post that came with the bike - drop that in first. You have to be precise when measuring the extra piece.

No. Specialized reimburses them for that. So it's $$ out of their pocket to the LBS, frames they most likely end up trashing, and shipping.

Really Specialized reimburses LBS?
Did you have to pay to have you frame rebuilt/parts swapped over to the replacement bike?
I am getting my frame replaced and getting charged what feels like an arm and a leg to have a parts swapped over to my replacement frame. just wondering what others who have gone through the shiv warranty replacement frame experienced.
thanks

I had exactly two times the same product fault. 1st time Specialized try to glue it. This fix was good for two years. The 2nd time Specialized said they do not repair these kind of product faults.
they offered me a replacement frame for 2900€. I thougth first this is a joke. Is this what they called life time warrenty for frames? I own 5 Bikes from Specialized but pretty sure I will not go for number 6.
I will try on my own now to glue this like some of you already mentioned...

I had the same happen 3 times, and they have replaced at no cost each time. I would not accept that response. now it has been about 3 or 4 years since it last happened.

When this thread started Specialized had a different warranted policy and so what is and isn't covered depends on the when you bought the bike. At that time it was really a life time replacement policy on the frames. In like 2015/2016 (I can't remember exactly when) the policy was changed to include a definition of the 'functional lifetime of a bike'. All carbon frame were effectively capped at something stupid like 5 or 6 years which didn't win a lot of fans. Probably in response to complaints they updated the policy again on July 1, 2018 to the current one. Frames reverted back to having lifetime coverage but 'corrosion and abuse' are not covered among other things. The seat post failures falls under the corrosion catch-all in the current policy but I think that was a new addition in 2018 and so doesn't necessarily apply to your bike.

The terms and conditions under which your bike was sold are still valid but my experience is this is not always applied when it would be in the owners favour. I know this because I have two pre-2018 Specialized and I remember trying to work through some of the details on the older (2010) frame. I still have the physical owners manual including a CD-ROM which says it covers 200+ detailed model manuals up to 2010. But even in these manuals it says to go online for the warranty info and Specialized has done a brilliant job of scrubbing that old information. I just had a look again and I can't find the pre-July 1 2018 policy, but I remember working out that the policy changes were not trivial. If you have a number of frames it probably worth trying to find the exact policy details. It may be that Specialized refused to fix it because they are applying the post 2018 criteria and just need a bit of encouragement.

The frame replacement policy hasn't changed much though if I remember correctly. I think I was offered 20% off an S-works frameset because they will only replace the frame and they only sell the frames in S-works. And that was 20% off full MSRP S-works frames when the dealer was offering >30% off the same S-works framesets as part of a standard sale.

For others reading this and you, I have heard of sticking something under the post to hold it up and just glueing it in, I am pretty sure getting that insert to hold is going to be hard, i know specialized tried on my first one and failed then gave me a new 2018 frame, also I am pretty sure 2016 and newer shivs have a insert that is more like a T or a J shape so they don't twist out like the older models.

The seatpost will only a certain depth into the frame, so in theory you could use a section of seatpost of the right length to position your post at the correct height. I doubt the frame is designed to take load in that way, so epoxying the post in place as an additional step would make sense....assuming you never plan on changing the post height or saddle.

I had a 2012 frame with the clamp issue (replaced under warranty....after some arguing with Specialized).

Sorry to revive such a long standing thread but I just purchased a 2012 Shiv from a teammate and had no idea about this issue until I was looking up something else and stumbled upon it. I don't think I currently have an issue with the seat post yet but I am wondering what to look for? If the bolts torque up to spec I would assume that it is not loose yet as it would just continue to pull the insert out correct? Anyone have any photos of the issue I can use to keep an eye out?

Mine failed when torqueing up the bolts after adjusting the post; the insert just kept sliding out of the frame.

I don't think these fail during a ride, just during assembly.

Here's some photos of mine, the epoxied side has come back out about 2mm. Taking it to a carbon specialist this weekend...

Appreciate the photos. Would be curious to hear how the carbon specialist goes.

Going to pick the shiv up tonight, carbon specialist said he uses a purpose built epoxy for aluminium to carbon adhesion and after bonding, removing the epoxy the bike shop put in (I assume they used some general purpose stuff) and redoing it with his stuff worked a charm. He said the seat post is torqued to 5nm no slipping or issues. Cost is $180 new zealand dollars and it was done in 3 days (probably some of this is curing time for the epoxy).

Idk if anyone wants photos but yeah I'm going to collect it later today and that's the final verdict. Way easier to have a carbon expert than moan to specialized or fork out $9k on a new shiv 😅😅😅

All good, the silver you see is the screw but I can guarantee the insert is flush! Your carbon repair agent needs to use a "methacrylate" epoxy whatever that means (it's on my invoice that's all I know)
