Same message. It really isn't the "quality" of the calorie, it's the tendency to consume more of it. Basic gist, put down the damned fork.

I've tried a million ways to lose weight, and in the end, the common denominator to any success is you have to allow yourself to be just a little bit hungry all the time. Your initial response is "OMG, This is serious, I'm gonna die!" Don't react to it, let it pass, and re-learn that it's OK. After a couple of days, that feeling is the new normal and you lose weight consistently. Certain foods make it easier because you feel fuller, but you have to learn to associate that slight hunger feeling with success on your diet. Once you do, you're losing weight just fine.

And that's probably all you really need to do to closely simulate the "Paleo" diet or at least the physiology that our ancestors experienced associated with it :)

Exactly. Scavenge and stay hungry. THAT is paleo. Some foods will let you live longer than others, but food available depends on the environment. "Paleo" is different for whatever local environment those people found themselves in at the moment. Paleo man didn't spend much time worrying about if something was "healthy" because the berry season was almost over, the antelope were on the move, and they heard wolves howling nearby just last night. Wrap a cricket in a leaf, chomp and GTFO.

They also probably didn't live all that long either. Of course high infant mortality drove average life-span down but it was also the case that there probably weren't all that many folks making it out of their 60's. I would guess very few 80+ year olds. Living in the "wild" takes its toll.

Yeah, wouldn't be great to have an interview with paleo man about what he eats?

Bob - "So, Paleo Man... What do you like to eat?"
Paleo Man - "Pardon, I don't understand the question." (Gnaws on some indiscriminate object that seems to be either bark or bone marrow.)
Bob - "When you eat, what do you prefer?"
Paleo Man - "Oh, well... Lately, there's a bloated carcass of something, not sure if it's a wooly rhino baby or WTF... but I think it's still good... it's down by the river. I grab some berries while going down there."
Bob - "No daily ration of kale?"
Paleo Man - "WTF is kale? I ate some leafy green sh*t the other day. Seemed ok. Did better than Thag. He ate some other leafy grean sh*t and now he's dead. Made a tarp out of his skin. Now that was a good idea."
Bob - "Wow. You don't think much about what you eat, huh?"
Paleo Man - "I suppose not. BTW, what tribe are you from?" (Clobbers Bob over the head with a rock, eats his face. Contemplates the whole thing later while eating some mushrooms and then dies of poison.)

Yeah, we buy local produce from a biweekly food coop and shop at well priced produce markets. Meats and fish I pay up for as we'll as gluten free and other healthy alternative products like avocado and coconut or flax seed oil. Still, my wife and I likely spend almost $200/week on groceries if bit a bit more. But on the flip side we hardly ever go out to eat.

I've declared this thread won before already (see approx. post 40), but this wins the series championships. Awesome.
