Why would any Ferrari owner do this?... Quote | Reply

No this is not one of those many youtubes showing idiot more money then talent Ferrari owners crashing there cars, but is this guy actually planning on driving this car any where?

Other than the obvious answer "because he can afford to" what was the point.

There are a lot of F430 owners out there. There's only one who owns a F430 with a leather exterior.

And yes, I think it's moronic, but I lost my ability to critique other people's spending habits when I got into cycling. I'd be just as slow on a $800 Giant and my friends are not shy in pointing that out!

It's not even leather. It's vinyl.

Still better than Bieber's chrome-wrapped Fisker.

OMG. That's tacky. But at least Beiber is still a kid. The guy who owns the Ferrari probably is his dad's age.

As far as stupid shit goes, I kind of like it.

I bet the owner also has a ball-gag and some handcuffs.

I saw a Mercedes the other day painted entirely black, but with no shine. I took a closer look to see why it was so dull, and it turned out the guy had covered the entire exterior of his Mercedes in Rhino lining like you put in the back of a pick-up truck.

Looked like shit.

I think it looks sharp. They certainly did a fantastic job with it. If that was paint, it would be awesome. I can't imagine it would hold up well. As soon as you get a cut in it, the whole job is toast. I doubt you could replace any panel to perfectly match the rest of it, even if you had a bunch of left over material. UV fade is a bitch.

Unless there was a bureaucratic cock-up at the Ministry of Man, I don't believe Bieber was ever issued a man-card.

Did it actually resemble a built up plasticized surface, like bed liner? If so, that's odd. Maybe they do lots of winter mountain pass driving, where rock chips are a major issue? Perhaps it was just matte black paint? Its becoming quite a trend. We see lots of cars in matte black, gray, and white. I have to say, the matte white looks pretty sharp with black rims and decent tint job on the windows.

As for the leather/vinyl wrapped Ferrari, to quote Eastwood in The Rookie; "You want to know what a real criminal is, Ackerman? It's the son of a bitch who painted this car, that's who... Can you imagine defacing a work of art like this with a color like that? The guy ought to have his ass removed."

^^ Truth

I have a feeling if he tried to move into any of the manliest cities they would chase him out with burning torches. I'm picturing Shrek style.

A lot of people get their cars wrapped with 3M Dinoc or similar film, which comes in matte finish. (The Lamborghini Aventador looks like a Batmobile in matte black).

At the VW forum I lurk at, a lot of guys use black Plasti-Dip spray on wheels/grilles etc because it peels right off if they don't like the results or get bored with it.

The Latvian manufacturer claims that it's real leather.
I have to admit, like the style or not, they did a real nice job at covering the car. Next time I need an exotic car covered in crocodile skin- they're whom I'm gonna' call.

Yeah. It wasn't just the matte finish or covering. It was the plasticky black surface with the non-skid texture.

Someone must have seen the Mythbusters episode about how bedliner is bulletproof, bombproof, and can save you from a low speed accident? Wanted their own 'armored car'? Still, very odd.
