How should legs feel at IM taper start? Quote | Reply

I'm not sure I have ever really gotten to an IM race day fully recovered. I want to get to my next IM (IMWI) as fresh as possible, and I am still considering a two vs three week taper. I want to take one step back from taper and figure out what physical condition my legs should be in, at the end of the final build weekend / start of taper. If it helps, I have reached the 'nothing left' stage a few times in training already, and plan on getting there a few more.

If three week taper, should my legs feel ....

A) Crushed / Nothing left: they have three weeks to recover.
B) Legs have some left, but don't want to over do it at this point. The crushed phase should be earlier in training.
C) Legs should feel good and strong at this point already. Taper should refine the rest.

If a two week taper, does the answer change?

Thanks.

2 Week taper for IM. The training is to build endurance/speed/efficiencies/nutrition/mental toughness

2 Week taper is to shed fatigue.
