That's definitely true. Sean usually does a good job with this race...didn't race this year, but I did the half-iron in 2010 and 2011. They did have a few moto officials the previous two years, but not a ton. More of the motos had one person in a vest, none of whom looked to be officials.

There is some judgment inherent in the drafting penalty. The previous two years, there were small packs drafting but nothing crazy (not like Racine) and there were also small groups of people sitting up and chatting, riding side by side, clearly not doing so for any aerodynamic benefit but because they were out there to finish and not 'race' the course.

Now I'm not saying those same people should not be told to break it up by someone on a moto, and passing those people is a pain in the ass (and dangerous sometimes, with the centerline), but I can see how an official if they passed that group of 'talkers' might choose to ignore it. I'm surprised to hear this drafting stuff though, as I have several friends who raced and hadn't heard about drafting in this year's race. Sadly, no matter where the race is and how many officials are on course, some people will cheat no matter what.

I was in wave 8 and didn't see much drafting. I did see motorcycles (with race event officials) on the bike course plenty of times. Another great race, great support on the course and a beautiful day. It would be great if the event became more of a race weekend festival. Adding an international distance or junior tri event on Saturday (in addition to the Sprint distance) would be awesome. I will be back next year!

That is a GREAT suggestion! Make sure to complete the survey sent to all participants and make that suggestion.

The New Specialized Wind Tunnel
Will this be a game changer for Specialized, in both sales and product design, or will it not move the sales and design needle versus those in Specialized's competitive set?
Yes, Game Changer
