Compression socks

More and more athletes seem to be wearing compression socks these days to aid recovery. I am not convinced that they offer anything special. What is your experience with compression socks? Are they worth the investment? Any special recommendations?

You are going to get both sides of the argument here. My advice is this. If you want to try them out, go to the local pharmacy and get yourself two pair for ten bucks rather than paying $60 because they have been marketed triathlon.

The science is behind them as a recovery tool. And as you see more and more people wear them there has to be a reason, especially when these socks are about $50 a pair for the good ones. Now...Many people are wearing them during the race or training. The science does not support this as having any benefit however for many people it is a mental thing and as i'm sure you know, racing has a very big mental aspect to it.
Now...I own a pair of CEP socks and calf sleeves. I used to wear them all the time during my training as I was newer to running and was constantly sore. After my shower I would put them on and sleep in them. In the morning i'd essentially be good as new. So I concur that they work as a recovery tool. Now, when it comes to wearing them during a race I will often do this as well. Does it do anything? I think it delays the onset of leg soreness so as I said before. Eventhough I know the science doesnt support it during a race, I think it works so I feel better when I wear them (even if they don't do anything).

Compression socks are so 2009. What you want is the recovery pump system :
www.recoverypump.com
I'm sure these will get you an Age Group podium, but you have to wear them when you get the award.

I wear compression socks every day. Wouldn't go with out them IMO and they are the first thing I slip into after hoping out of the shower after a long day of training. I started wearing them way before tri when I would spend hours and hours standing on my feet in the OR. I wrote up a review on my favorite pair a while back at the following:

I am wearing them as I type right now and I have not done a single piece of exercise all day today except for going to the fridge.
