MTB shoes? Quote | Reply

I'm interested in getting a new pair of mountain bike shoes that'll work well for off-road tri's and I'm a little dismayed that I can't find any regular three-strap carbon shoes... all the nice shoes seem to have buckles, and the ones with three velcro straps are mid-to-low end shoes with relatively flexible soles. I can't operate a buckle one-handed while I'm on the bike, and I'd rather not have to open and close my shoes in transition. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe it's time to glue lugs onto a tri shoe. :)

Sidi used to make a tri-specific MTB shoe (terra), you might check chain reaction cycles. Specialized makes a $300 pair that look very nice but the price is a bit out there (understandable though, as there's a tiny market for them). I spied some Mavic xterra-specific shoes on a pro at a race that I'd guess will be out next year.

I have no idea how good it is but Lake makes this shoe , MX331, http://www.lakecycling.com/footwear.html

Carbon sole and uses the BOA system instead of straps. So just turn the crank and slip your foot out.
