Not just a reply to you. What happened to these? To expensive for a wide market? Carbon craze?

Here's Dan's take on the story. Too far ahead of their time, too expensive to make. IIRC it seemed their target market was time trialists, not triathletes, and that's not a very large market.

They did make a road bike but I don't think it got a lot of traction, this was many years before Cervelo re-pioneered this category with the Soloist. I believe Jeannie Longo rode one for many years, long after Hooker disappeared.

They are just such cool bikes, have aero features that even two decades later are still advanced..

The "Cat. 1" (what the OP bought) is the "road bike" model. It came with a 700c fork.

IIRC, the TT models came with a 650c fork on the front. In fact, Andy Coggan ran one of those 650c forks on his Hooker "Cat.1".

700C front & back - typical on the CAT1 model & Pursuit (Track) model.

its a good point about the trispoke wheel option.
they would be the correct vintage look.
sort of Grame Obree like - if anyone remembers what I'm referring to.

Hmmm.........a pair of Specialized or Hed trispokes would be relatively easy to get....for cheap too.

thanks for the input.

if you saw this frame & fork (and hooker tt bars as well) up close.
the care and craftsmanship is quite evident....the welds on the f&f and the tt bars are all ground smooth............the tail end of the airfoils / aero sections at the downtube & seatstays are 'razor sharp' - beautiful.
the more I look the more I like the hooker........... photos can't do this thing justice.

Hmmmm..........unusual to see one in black.
no front hooker sl brake though.......the rear seems to be there.
original headset looks to have been replaced too.
looks in good shape, the guy wants a little much for it though $1000.

I paid less for mine and thats in 'superb condition' with both brakes , hooker aerobars and all original fittings to boot.
maybe I lucked out a little?

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but your deal seems too good to be true.

I bought a Cat1 frame a few years ago and it was cracked. If you're planning to ride yours, I suggest you inspect it before every time you ride it.

I really hope I am wrong, it's a great looking bike.

If the frame is OK, this a vintage goldmine. Looks like an older Tune/Powertap wired hub. If I had an extra grand, I'd get it just for fun.

trust me, the frame - fork - brakes - bars .....etc were inspected very carefully.
not just my me but by also by some buddies with very discerning eyes (they even tried to smell it...:) )
the paint is absolutely flawless - I think this cat1 spent most of its life in a showcase in someone's basement.

thanks for the 'heads up' though........the vintage build is almost done......will find out soon enough.

Hello antlue,
Congratulation again to you! You are very lucky to get such a perfect shape Hooker Elite. Your Hooker Elite is perfect size for me. There is one in California USA 10 minutes down the beach close to me. I am very hesitating to buy it even though that is what I really wanted. I do not buy frames bigger than my size anymore. I like to enjoy riding it, not just displaying it.

Life is short, enjoy, love, peace!

The New Specialized Wind Tunnel
Will this be a game changer for Specialized, in both sales and product design, or will it not move the sales and design needle versus those in Specialized's competitive set?
Yes, Game Changer
