I have officially lost all faith in the musical intelligence of slowtwitch members and will be boycotting this competition.

Out of curiosity, what would you think should be in the finals? Also, what is your age (not that that makes you smart or dumb, but it gives an idea of what music you grew up with).

41.

One very simple example: Black In Black over Sgt. Pepper. Don't get me wrong, I love Black, but Sgt. Pepper changed the game. It's one of the five or ten albums that everyone should own. There are a number of others, but that is an easy one.

Yet 17 million more people own Back in Black, behind only Thriller and Dark Side of the Moon.

You may not personally agree with the votes, but I don't think its fair to say that its absurd to pick Back in Black over Sgt. Pepper. Back and Black simply rocks hard from Hells Bells to Rock and Roll ain't Noise Pollution and through each and every track in between.

It's certainly an apples to oranges comparrison. I felt the same as you, but for completely opposite reasons, when Led Zep 1 beat out Appetite for Destruction. Led Zep 1, IMO, isn't even a very good album, much less better than AfD. But it was groundbreaking and highly influential. So be it.

EDIT: looking at the track list, I don't even really like half the songs on Sgt. Pepper. FWIW, John Lennon didn't think it was a very good album,.......but I think his opinion is a little biased. ; ^ )

Do you really want to use sales as an indicator? Then we should re-do the entire playoff to include Saturday Night Fever, Millenium (Backstreet Boys), The Bodyguard Soundtrack and Dirty Dancing since those are 4 of the top ten selling albums.

I think this started as best rock album playoffs. I think Sgt Pepper is an amazing album, but losing to Back in Black is understandable. If we were a bunch of music critics, the championship would be Sgt Pepper vs Pet Sounds. But in a rock album playoff, having AC/DC or Floyd vs Zepp 4 was destined. (although I am still upset about Pearl Jam Ten being eliminated by all you old guys)

I understand and I am not mad at anyone, my initial post was sort of a joke. I do want to make it clear that I voted for Ten, but then my wife is 32 and we met when I went back to college, so I am not your typical 4 year old!

And if the category was "best boy band album," I think you woul dmake a god point.

The original post did isolate this to rock music including bands like the Beatles and Pink Floyd and Green Day but excluding acts like Madonna and Michael Jackson.

Sales certainly shouldn't be the *only* indicator (i.e. I didn;t vote for the Eagles), but it is very telleing about just how good an album is. I often get into a pissing match with huge Radiohead fans. Meh....if Radiohead is so damn good, why can't they write music that people want to listen to ; ^ ).

Anyway, I'm enjoying this discussion, so take anything I say with a light heart.
