i know lance doesnt have anything to do with this but figured i would get more views if i included his name lol

What do you guys think about the sprints this year at the TDF with all the team swapping and lead out trains being switched. Also, with sky and Garmin with strong GC contenders to split resources with the sprinters how will the stages end up. I'm interested to hear what people who actually know about cycling unlike myself have to say.

I got my $ on Farrar to get his ass kicked all tour long.

2 to 1 odds. Any takers?

My view is that the leadout with be left to Liquigas, working for Sagan. Sky will concentrate on the GC for Wiggins. Cav to win a fews early stages by getting himself in the right placeat the right time. I just think that Cav is a better sprinter than Sagan

I think Cavendish, Sagan and Greipel will each win at least one stage. Boonen will be difficult since he's not doing the Tour. Farrar might win one if he's lucky like last year.

With Wiggins in the mix for the overall, Cav will not have the lead-out of past years. That means he has to do his own thing and that will likely get him two or three wins. Farrar and Griepel have to get lucky to win sprints, but it has happened. If either gets a win they should consider themselves fortunate. You did not mention Mark Renshaw, but I'll put him in there with Farrar and Griepel; he was fast enough to get second on the final stage one year even while leading out Cav, so he has some good speed.
To me, Sagan is an unknown. How will he fare against top-end competition? With Liquigas give him a lot of support with Nibali and Basso riding for GC?
Won't it be fun to watch?

Garmin should focus on anything else really besides sprints

Lots to consider and a tough call to make, but here are some armchair quarterback observations --

it'll be interesting to see how Cav bounces back from the Giro and how much support he has given Wiggens is a favorite for yellow. My guess it that he'll have Bernhard, but the rest of the team will be dedicated to GC glory. I don't see Sky shredding their legs in week-one.

IMO It's going to be the Sagan show this July if his team can keep him protected and in good position -- he's having a dream season.

I thought Boonen was skipping the Tour to focus on the Olympics.

I have no idea what to expect from Farrar / the Garmin team. I don't think Farrar has won a stage / race yet this year. I could see Farrar doing some serious damage in a breakaway though.

With garmin going for a GC podium, I'd say farrar doesn't even place in any of the stages. The 1-2 spots will be most likely cav and sagan on every clean stage, so now it's a race for 3rd.

Sagan vs Cav is going to be awesome to watch.

I think Sagan wins a few.

Cav and Sagan are going to be the ones going head to head this year, and I think that Cav is probably shaking in his bibs right now! Frankly, if he isn't, he should be! Sagan is just proving that even without a super strong leadout train, he is a force to be reckoned with!

I'm going to take the contrary view here and say that Farrar will surprise at the Tour. He changed his training this year for the spring classics; emphasizing endurance over sprint training. He did OK (e. g. long break in Flanders), but didn't place well due to not having a sprint anymore. This spring taught him that he is really a sprinter and not a classics specialist. He tried to be the second, but it didn't work.

It's a safe bet that he has reconsidered his approach, and has tailored his training since April for the Tour. It's a bit of a wild card given his lack of results this spring, but I think his training since then has been focused on the Tour, and focused on sprints.

Tyler will show up at the Tour.

As for Sagan, I won't be surprised by anything he does. As the saying goes: "Amazed, but not surprised." He could well win the prologue, or a mountain stage, or a flat stage. If Liqui fails in their GC ambitions he could end up with the green jersey.

Sagan is fast but hes not Greipel or Cav fast. Farrar is a top 5 bet at best - never #1 against the fast guys. I'm not sure that Garmin have a GC contender - can Ryder recover enough?

Will definitely be an interesting Tour this year. GC is a toss up, but sprints especially. The Sky lead out train is a disaster, I am a big Cav fan and every sprint race I watch they just can't hold it together. Train gets broken up and he has to find another wheel, but yet he still can manage to pull out decisive wins. I think Sky will work for Cav early (to an extent), but probably back off with some of the guys later on. I truly think Cav on Sky is better only having 2-3 guys for a small train and just finding a good spot to sit in and make a move. Wiggo is on form and has great potential for Top 3 or better in GC, so I know Sky will want to capitalize on that. Cav can win the green jersey, but it will be because of his pure talent as a sprinter and not because of the Sky Train like when he was with HTC.

As for Sagan, the kid has a lot of talent. He seems to ride away from everyone else in the sprints I have seen. He will give Cav a run for his money and i think we will see a lot of 1-2 finished between the two. Not sure how Liquigas will work in the Tour, GC or Sprint. In my opinion they should work for Sagan and go for the Green Jersey because there GC hopes are minimal at best, they just don't seem to have a good team dynamic in overall contenders.

Boonen is not in the tour (focus on Olympics and World Championships).

It will be a head to head between cavendish and Sagan with cavendish winning the most.
