I'm actually a pretty happy person but something that really rubs me the wrong way is dishonesty. That is the reason I posted this article. This whole green jobs BS is dishonest. When you make a statement that you are going to create 5 million green jobs, and these are the kinds of jobs you include, that is dishonesty. Also, by classifying the jobs in the green category they can be singled out for preferrred treatment that others don't get.

What I see is loan guarantees, not subsidy. Kudos to the admin for following through on the govt promise (2005) of helping with up-front costs of clean energy. I don't think Obama is a big fan of nuclear, but I see it as one of the least evil sources going.

Loan guarantees, insurance coverage and other support all cost taxpayers something. The utility believes that something runs to $2 billion that they don't have to spend. Sounds like a subsidy to me. Government picking one part of an industry over others, picking winners if you will, and using your taxes to pay for it.
One thing I've learned from both sides of the aisle is that subsidies for someone else's stuff is awful and possibly dishonest. Subsidies for my stuff is necessary and if you're against it, that means you're for higher taxes.
If nuclear made economic sense, why would we need the government to subsidize it?

Well, it appears that you do.
The best I can tell, green jobs include recycling, clean energy, and mass transit, and all of the employees that make that happen. You and rush seem to think that it should only apply to.....well, we don't know what you think, other than it shouldn't apply to janitors even though it requires janitors to make windmills. No janitors, no windmills.
As pointed out, if a company that is "green" requires 5000 people to make their product, then yes, all 5000 peopl count.....not just the people that have impressive titles.

Question, what's the appropriate word to be using here, "created" or "are". Let's say there are 150 million jobs in the economy, a definition of green industries was developed and it was found that 3 million people work in those industries.
Barry and I are saying all employment at an establishment goes towards the production of that establishment's good or service, you seem to disagree. Fine.
But you keep saying Obama claims they "created" 3 million green jobs. Can you point me to where this is said? I think they said there "are" 3 million green jobs, these could have been around for years but have just been specifically identified now. Is the administration claiming they created all of these jobs?
Also, how would you count employment in the US military? Just the guys firing the guns or everyone involved in various support and administrative functions?
