Yep. There's nothing like a heard of purple bringing up the back of the pack. A lot of them are doing this "HIM" in training for IMC. I have told at least 3 that Wildflower is not a HIM.
Might be some hot middle-aged chicks out there though! :-)
Marv, I coach the Wildflower team for TNT in the East SF Bay Area. We are bringing a few rather attractive ladies to the race and they won't be at the back of the pack. Two of them are going to crush some male racers egos for sure! And yes, there will be several folks bringing up the rear, but they are raising important money for cancer research and honoring loved ones who died fighting so please try to be sensitive to their situation and give them a little encouragement when you can. I lost my mom to cancer last September and it was a huge blow. I plan to race the MTB sprint in her honor this weekend myself.
I totaly get the "it ain't no picnic" thought process, but they all know what they are getting themselves into since TNT conducts a training weekend every year (6 weeks ago) at the race venue. It's primarily used as a race fueling strategy test and a pacing strategy test too. For most of them its their first shot at real heat training too.
Cheers,
Dave

And even if they talk about the run, they don't mention the cliff they have you run of in mile 6. It is marked on the map as steep hill, but the first time I did the course I assumed they were talking about the uphill that started at mile 4. My quads were just about to forgive me at about mile 12, but they will never let me forget Lynch.
The other part that gets passed over is the bike after the nasty descent. Those last 10 miles are great place to either gain or lose a lot of time.

See this is what bugs the crap out of about about TNT, et al. You pull out the "funding research" and "honor loved ones" stuff to make your racing seem more important than that of everyone else.

They should talk more about the run. The bike will seem easy about mile 4 or so of the run :)
I'm not saying I'm going to dominate, nor likely do particularly well, however, glad to have a challenging course. The more hills on the run the better.
I'm facing Mont Tremblant in a few months, so time to chalk up the suffering. In the likely event I get humbled, rather it be now to fuel my motivation for August.

If you like a hilly run, the race is for you. The second half of the run is easier than the first (except for the pit) so if you can save something for mile 6 on you'll be good.

Where did I say a TNT racer was "more important" than anyone else who races. You my friend have issues. I would never wish upon even my worst enemy the suffering my family went through watching my mom die. I was simply stating that they have additional motivation that helps them get through a very challenging day and many of them would really get a lift if a stranger wished them well. For anyone to belittle them for trying their best to complete what for them is a very hard task is outright rude. You were never a beginner were you? You started at the top and have been pissing on everyone below you since day 1. Must be great to be you.

You sure about that? I thought last year they/you were over in Lupine Meadows. The hook-up sites are non-reservable. I just called the race staff and park to verify. Either way, I'll learn for myself when I arrive Wednesday.

Sorry about that.
Back to the original question.
Its going to be hot as crap and the men will be seperated from the boys on the run as others have indicated, not the bike. Nasty grade is so highly over-hyped its rediculous. Yes, its a climb, but pales in comparison to most notable climbs in other races. It aint no Ricter Pass. What's going to deliver the knockout blow will be the two pitch dirt ramble between mile 4-5 and then when they hit the hot blacktop at the pit aroune mile 11.
Every day this week it has been 5-8 degrees hotter than the forecast model thought it would be. If the trend holds out, we could be looking at 85-88 degrees on Saturday.
I'm personally looking forward to seeing the finish and the condition of the athletes who leave everything at the line, its a huge rush, even for us slow pokes.

Never done the LC, but if its anything like the Oly course, just twice as long, you will get your workout in. Every year I spend 5 miles yelling and cursing at my legs because I know they can go faster... they just dont. I think I will try to get a squatty-potty porta potty for any ST racers who want :-)

Triathlon was started by a bunch of kids at the swimming hole, who heard the ice cream man. They swam to their bikes, chased down the truck, jumped off their bikes, and ran to be first in line.

Doing my first Wildflower LC this year and am REALLY looking forward to the challenge. Leaving o'dark thirty from so cal Friday morning and planning on looking for my camp spot by noon.
No that my question really matters, however I am kind of curious how the WF run compares to the Silverman run. I did the Silverman half in 2010 and although there is no dirt on the run, there isn't one piece of flat pavement on the whole coarse.
Anybody do both races and have any comparisons?????

Count me and my wife in.
We're coming in Wednesday evening, and plan on camping near the top of Lynch. I'm racing the Half, she's racing the Oly.

I was incorrect on the loop names. TNT has loops F & G reserved, not B & C.
Hook-ups are the "E" loop of Redonda Vista. They are first come/first served. Last year a tri club had a single person drive up early Wednesday and put reserved tickets, proof of payment or something, on the best sites in the hook up area, then they didn't actually arrive for two days. Made a lot of people really pissed off. You should get a spot if you arrive Wednesday though. Try to get there as early as you can, the good ones go like lightning.
The big meadow across from the bathrooms at the "E" loop and the entire hillside behind it are the F & G loops that TNT has reserved. Been that way for about 15 years.
In reality, its going to get so crowded that people will end up wherever they can by the end of the evening on Friday.
Enjoy the weekend!

There really is no flat at wildflower either. Some gradual spots of 1 to 2% maybe, but hilly and about 2/3 dirt. The climb at 4 miles is longer than anything at silverman too. I didn't run silverman, but did the live coverage and did the entire run course, and it seemed to be just up and down about 5 to 6% grades. Wildflower has some 14% i'd say..

Even the Oly run is tough. But, if the "girls" are at the aid stations, it will help some. Glad the weather looks like it might be about perfect, but since I will be on the run after noon, it will still be real hot.
Have fun in the MTB race.

After weeks of debating about racing I made up my mind last night.
I will be doing long course for the 20th time.
I will just be chugging through the race no speed records for me. It is going to be a great day to get some fitness! Might do a few beer bongs on the run too…

Wow, since the long course has been full for weeks, how did you get in?
