Any Giro Prolight helmet owners?	Quote \| Reply

I'm considering purchasing the Giro Prolight or the Saros. I'm leaning toward the Prolight because of the simplicity and lighter weight. However, the Saros appears that it may be more practical as far as making adjustments to accommodate skullcaps or cycling caps for winter use. The Prolight does have some adjustablility shown at this link:

Ive got this helmet and love it. I forget it's on my head. Mine has the elastic thing in the back of my head so no adjustment, the bigger the dome the tighter it will be. They are for sale on Bonktown for a good price periodically, with I think, is a rock loc fit system in the back for adjustment. Make sure it's a snug fit if you get the elastic otherwise it could be easily knocked off in a crash (I've got a good sized dome).

I use the Prolight. Really like it. Once you get it adjusted, which is a little different than other helmets, it fits just fine. I haven't had any issues wearing it with a beanie or headband/ear cover during the winter. It fits a little tighter with headwear, but I didn't have to make any adjustments.

Had the pro light for ~1 year. Super light and super comfy. I love the elastic fitting, at least for my head. Same as above, I forget that I'm even wearing it! Also never had to adjust for cycling caps +/- skull caps for winter.

I have the original prolight and always had issues with it sliding back on my head. The only way to stop this was to have the chin strap tight. I was always worried about what would happen if i crashed and it slid back. I seems that the soft rear straps do not provide the stability of the plastic of other giro models.
I know it redesigned but not sure how.

I have a gigantic head. I loved my prolight until it was killed in a crash.

Thanks for all the comments so far. Sorry to hear about your "deceased," mtlrunner. :)

I need to order a medium in the Prolight (after doing the tape measure test). I saw from the YouTube video I posted that there is some fore/aft adjustment capability (inside the helmet, near the temples). Also, cinching up the chin strap appears to give all the adjustment that a person would need.

Any of you use a helmet cover on this? I've been using a medium Gore Bike Wear Gore-tex cover on a 2009 Giro Indicator. This and a Smartwool skullcap and cotton cycling cap is very adequate for the rainy winter we have in the Pacific NW.

Used one for about a year, gave it to my wife. The Specialized Prevail weighs only slightly more, but for me 10x more comfortable, and cooler. Prolights haven't been selling well, I believe, so you should be able to get it for a much more reasonable price than list. Only reason I could afford the prevail, as I help out at a shop during their sales.

I too switched to the prevail and the fit is much better along with venting

Thanks for the tip on Bonktown. However, I went to their site and didn't find the helmet. Do they only post one item at a time under the heading "The Goods?"

Have it and love it. Supposedly the pro teams didn't like it as much because of insufficient ventilation. That hasn't been a problem for me in Atlanta.

Wore mine for the first time today. No problems. Nice and light, but not quite as adjustable - not a problem though.

I have 3 helmets - the Prevail, the Ionos and the Prolight.

The Prevail is my favorite - comfy, vented and light. I broke one when I crashed at 55kph in a race in December - but my head was absolutely unhurt. Not even a scratch. Bought myself another one within a few days. The only downside to the Prevail is its price.

The Prolight is a nice enough helmet, but in hindsight, for the same price as the Prolight, I'd get the Spesh Prospero - which is only a little heavier than the Prevail, but comparable fit and performance.

Similarly, I see no reason to ever get an Ionos again - it is heavier than a Prevail and not nearly as comfy, and comparable vented. Even the Prospero outperforms the Ionos, IMO

I love my Prolight, you really forget it's there it's so light. It's got 3 holes for adjusting where the straps clip in. I don't have any problems with ventilation, I think it's quite subjective. I crashed hard last year and destroyed the helmet but not my head and promptly bought another off Bonktown for the great $80 deal.

Picked up a medium Prolight from Performance last week for $110. I chose the white/silver to be a little more visible in traffic. Very good looking helmet, imo.

Like some of you have said, this thing is so light, it feels like I'm not wearing anything. It's a little tight when wearing a cycling cap underneath it, though. Need to move those straps that anchor to the front to another setting to see if that makes a difference. The large would have definitely been too big.
