I don't use gel. Just water. My Garmin hard strap consistently stops registering heart rate after about an hour of running. Very humid here, so dryness is not an issue.

All of this seems crazy to me. I have a Polar 'hard' strap working fine after five + years. Garmin hard strap with 305 working great after a year. Does this interest in soft straps seem reasonable? More comfortable, really? I don't really notice the hard straps. I clean them by a quick plain water rinse mostly, wash with soap every 4-5 uses.

Seems crazy to me too, but it is what it is. After an hour, signal gone. Every time.

I have 2 Garmin hard straps and 2 from cyclops - all interchangeable and all have been working fine for years.
guess I am an outlier

At Polar USA, we find that most ( not all) soft strap "Wear Link" heart rate transmission issues are due to lack of washing or extreme hot water or machine dry versus hang to dry. When we hear "the Polar worked great for the first 3-4 months and then erratic HR back to the watch", most likely, they did not wash it. Hand washing in the sink or shower from day 1 usually works. I can not speak for the other brands, but washing and maintaining can not be that different :)

Wayne, you helped me out a year ago and
went way beyond great customer service
to provide me with a POLAR soft strap to go along with my Garmin transmitting unit. It worked great for just a few uses. Then I did an ironman race and the HRM readings only lasted about 3 hours into the bike after which the heart rate readings kept dropping to unreasonably low levels. This was IMKY, so it was hot and there was plenty of moisture present. I would try moving the strap around and a reasonable reading would come back (not sure if it was from my playing with it or if the readings were just erratic on their own) for a short time. I eventually stopped playing with it. It seemed to revive at the start of the run, but then acted up again after a short while. Afterwards I heard that this sometimes happens with POLAR strap and Garmin transmitter. I just want to get this out as a n=1 for my experience.

The New Specialized Wind Tunnel
Will this be a game changer for Specialized, in both sales and product design, or will it not move the sales and design needle versus those in Specialized's competitive set?
Yes, Game Changer
