TJ Tollakson's Bike Quote | Reply

There was a bunch of banter about TJ Tollakson's bike setup after he won Eagleman a few days ago. I thought that I would share a gallery that I just got from one of his interns. And yes, those are cups for your nuts being used as elbow rests...

Here is the full gallery...

He should at least paint the nut cups black... TJ is a great engineer but, white nut cups on such a sweet ride?

That strikes me as an insanely comfortable bike.

Love the nut cups...

Are those shin guards? Did he use Sports Authority to outfit his bike?

This might be the most rediculous thing I have ever seen...which is why I like it...The Sports Authority comment was hilarious...

SA - "Can I help you"
TJ - "Looking for your baseball section...and by the way, do you carry cups?"
SA - "Yes, right this way"
TJ - "Thank you..."
TJ - "Do you have something bigger...and can I get two?"
SA - "Excuse me sir, I think you might be looking for our hockey gear...you find our arm and elbow pads there"

How would one go about applying for an internship with TJ?

The nose of his saddle appears to be angled down a bit. I wonder if the beam deflects enough to make the saddle level when TJ is on it.

The saddle doesn't need to be level, especially when you can lay on your aerobars.

it'd be nice to see him just 'melt' some SMC and form it to his arms and lining it with padding. should take too much work really.

They are more like young apprentices.

When I was in transition and taking pictures I walked up to TJ and said "mind if I take a picture of your bike for ST? He said no go right ahead. I said " Thanks TJ can you please step away from the bike so I can get a good picture."

He's a good guy. He came down a few years ago for a Zipp demo night at our local Wednesday night TT. Looks like he's coming back again to do it this year. I'll pay more attention to his position this year. He's had it for a while now, but looks like it's been working well for him.

Can't speak for the Zipp, but my Allsop beam version was just as you inferred, deflection of the beat brought it to level-ish. I do believe from what I have heard that the Zipp beams vs. the early Allsop beams are/were much less compliant.

Re: TJ Tollakson's Bike [jmh] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

This looks like he could REALLY benefit from making a mould of his forearms and elbows; making a positive, and then some custom fit elbow/forearm rests from either glass or carbon. This is something simple enough for even me to do...and would not take that much time and might improve comfort.
