Cervelo P3 SL
I'm re-posting this question. Currently in my area (Seattle) none of the bike shops have the P3 SL in stock. Who out there has rode, touched, or seen one? After Tom D's glowing review of Cervelo's customer service I am intrigued. I am also looking at the '05 Blade and the GURU Aero-Ti, both of which are also significantly more expensive. Thanks.

Well, I owned a P3 (not SL), liked it but messed up the position fiddling with the Bjorn thing. We sold a good number of P3's last year.

Now this new P3SL comes out with some nice refinements and all the good stuff from the original P3 and I figure this is my chance to get it right on a P3.

I haven't seen (in person) a new P3SL but I don't need to in order to make a buying decision for myself because I have the luxury of working with the former P3 a lot.

I'm pretty darn excited to get this bike built and get on it.

Tom,

since you seem to be the P3 expert....! I am stuck between a 52 or 55 with 700c. The IBD near me are a bunch of jokers and I don't want to deal with them fitting me. I am 5'11" with approx a 32.5 inseam. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kurt

I've seen one, not up close though. There was one in Penticton during (and in the days leading up to) IMC. It was on the rooftop bikerack of a pickup truck from Way Past Fast, a Calgary/Edmonton based triathlon shop. I saw it several times throughout the weekend...

How different do you expect it to feel? After all, the "only" difference between it and the standard P3 is an anodized frame that weighs 100g less...... or did I miss something?

I doubt it will feel any different other than being a trifle lighter. At least I hope not, I really loved the way the previous P3 felt. I just dicked up my position on it fiddling with the Bjorn project, which I did actually complete but really didn't like riding. By then I switched to something else I wanted try, so I am interested in getting back on a P3.

Finally got MY P3 SL last weekend, in a 53/54 size. I wonder how it stacks up against today's crop of "superbikes." Currently on a 1st generation QR Cd 0.1.. well and a Softride Road Rocket.

My fastest TT was on my older P3 SL. I'm slightly slower on my current P5 :0

Sure, LOTS of other variables, but in my opinion, it isn't going to slow you down much ;-)

Wish I never sold the frame ...

Great minds think alike. I have a P3-SL and a Softride Powerwing. Both are great bikes. Cervelo demonstrated with the SL that fast bikes can be made from Aluminum. They got so much right with the SL. You will like the bike. Look at the welds in the bottom bracket area, I have no idea how they got it so clean.

Let us know how you like your SL when you run it through its paces.

Also, digging up a thread from 2004?

.

Once, I was fast. But I got over it.

I'm suspecting the Cervelo will climb more efficiently than my portly Softride! Threw out some spacers, changed the stem, just tweaking the fore/aft and height of seat right now. Hoping to play with it on the ride in a few weeks.

Holy thread revival batman. Like others on the thread - I regret selling that bike. Somebody somewhere is grinning from ear to ear :-(

Haha. Yeah, apparently he was on a 12 year waiting list for this bike. I hope it's worth the wait.c

I'm glad I still have my baby poop yellow P3 aluminum.
Besides, with my nearsightedness, it's easy to spot in T1.

Got inpatient. It was 9 degrees here in the Fraser Valley, so I went for it. Threw away the spacers, swapped the stem and rode b53 miles. Dammit this thing climbs well. Best 670 bucks I ever spent.

Hope you enjoy it! I have owned north of 20 road/tt bikes in my life and my 2 fav tt's were P3al/P3al. No carbon or ti ever surpassed them in comfort or performance, but for the price it became the clear winner. And to the road equation my Soloist was among my favorites equal to my Merlin Extralight.

I call mine "double yellow line" yellow. If Cervelo were to reintroduce the frame with a value build kit to hit a sub $2000 price point, they would sell bazillions of them!

Now you just need a black aero bento.

Thats next on the to-do list. I'm going to add bottle bosses to the top tube, like how Nick from Tririg did with carbon bike, and then install the Torhans Aero bento

Love the off - season. A time to dick with my bike positions. Popped on an old original ISM saddle, chopped the seat post, and WHAM just bought a whole lot of comfort. For nostaligia's sake, I put on some clean Rolf Vector Pros on it. Since I am focusing on Olympics next year, this might be my main ride over the QR CD 0.1. Foolishness?
