One-O-One's Clear Lake's official coverage thread Can't Post

Live coverage of Clear Lake commences. My guess: Bradenton's winner David Thompson gets a stiff challenge on the bike today, which he did NOT get in Florida, as he manhandled Vanhoenacker and everyone else. Look for our own Rappstar to give Thompson some company out there, and something to think about for 80 miles.

there's a link to video, and an auto-generated leaderboard much like ironmanlive uses, on tri 101's main page. as for the video, i don't see anything at this moment. as for the leaderboard and athlete finder, we'll see how that works.

I cant make the video work, but that may be security on my end. The athlete tracker/live results is awful. Is there a logic to it that I'm not getting?

i would like to say that two girls and one guy in a trailer caused the delay but, in truth, it was a dropped internet connection. back on board now. more later.

Is Monty or anyone getting any pics of Thompson and Rappstar?

Thanks for the updates,

" Is Monty or anyone getting any pics of Thompson and Rappstar?"

my camera's batteries just died, and i find myself temporarily out of charged AAs. so i've got a runner getting me another set. Monty's also taking pics, but he's out there spotting and not in a position to upload.

I'm liking what's going on here, from the point of view of the uberbiker thing (which is a race within a race in enjoy following). i think rapp's very hungry to prove today he's in the sport's elite cyclists.

Go DKT!!!!!

If David can't pull it out, hopefully Jordan can.

Combined they have more IQ than the entire rest of the field!

isn't that interesting. thinkers who can ride. not that the hard riders in our sport's history haven't been thinkers. it's just interesting that rapp, thompson and bjorn seem to really be looking at the nuts and bolts of riding, not simply just stomping on the pedals.

john had a bad wreck in the hill country a few weeks ago and had surgery on his broken clavicle. he is not racing. the guy who hit him ( was on a motorcycle) died. john is recovering well.

the two guys you're pulling for are now one and two, at mi-75. jordan's making a mad (maybe suicide) rush to catch thompson. rapp's hair is on fire right now, and he's bearing down, with thompson in his sights.

Don't forget, Holloway won Ironman Canada in 2005. She's tough all the way!

Dan,
The Lake Constance area you described is where I am from in Germany.
Thus I know now that Clear Lake is very beautiful.

If Thompson and Cave win again today, do we start to think that the 101 distance might not be that much different than the 70.3 in that short-coursers moving up might have the advantage or is it too early to say?

It would have been interesting if Beke or Kehr would have raced today. They were both on the participant list.

Is WTC influencing the IM athletes to stay away from 101?

It sounds like it's a beautiful day and beautiful place to race.

i think 70.3 is pretty much a sprinter's game. historially, the "old nice" distance was the place where ultra athletes met sprinters on a level playing field. mark allen was unbeatable at nice after he became beatable at short stuff. paula could win at nice. but pigg was a good racer at this distance, including guys like ric wells, who won this race tho a pure sprinter and no good at IM racing. if you look at the top athletes over this distance, they tend to be folks who have plenty of ultra ability but who've also got speed in their legs. it's sort of like our version of running's 10k, where marathoners and 1500m runners meet for a showdown.

if i'm north american sports or WTC, i make a run at this place. it's soooo much better than arizona, and probably half the venues where IMs are raced in north america. 101 needs to do what it ought to make sure this venue stays theirs.
