Chris, Found it.

Thanks
So, just to confuse things, the Cal 70.3 site has in it's rules and regs the following Guess we'll find out on race day. Doesn't make much sense to not allow them on the ground:

7. Shoes must be in the bike gear bag or placed in the athlete’s transition spot. Shoes may be attached to the pedals. Shoes and shirt must be worn at all times.

Chris
I'm going down Thursday morning(and Fri) so I'll give a heads up Thursday later in the day.

Could you recommend a good massage therapist in Oceanside area? I was hoping to get a light massage on thursday before the race. Any ideas? Male or female. My wife might prefer a female.

Thanks

How do you wear your shoes at all times if they have to be in the gear bag or attached to your pedals?

The lawyer in me wants to take this to the literal extreme and ask whether shoes must be worn during the swim so that they are worn at all times.

PM Slowtwitcher MikePlumb. He lives in O'side/Carlsbad. I have a good friend (female) who is a masseuse here in San Clemente. I'll ask her if she'd be willing to make a drive to O'side.

Hey Jay..how do the hills on the backside compare to that beast of a hill in St. George?

There is one pretty tough climb on the backside that somewhat rivals that St. George climb. There are 3 major climbs on the backside of the O'side course between mile 28 and 43 or so. Some rolling terrain in between each hill. Just be sure to save something for those climbs.

They're fast and fun. The pavement is pretty good, the wind is usually blowing the right way, and there are just enough gentle turns to keep it interesting. The backside has hills, bad pavement, crosswinds, and headwinds, so in your pacing and efforts remain mindful of what is coming.

Models (for what they're worth) showing a WSW wind in the morning, 10-13 or so.... could be a headwind frontside and a little tail wind to push us uphill this year....

West south west is a side slight tail wind heading northbound. I think we're going to see a pretty solid headwind on that final 10 miles back to T2. Ugh!

Only if you don't get caught.

I found out the other day I guy I work with will be driving around a course marshal on the back of his Goldwing. I slipped him a box of Thin Mints to stay away from anyone wearing a kit resembling mine ;-)

Thursday morning update:
Weather's looking pretty typical morning overcast with temps in the high 40s at dawn quickly warming into the 60s after sunup. Overcast should burn away late morning.
Water temp is 58 as of this morning.
There is a BIG south swell filling in Friday night, so expect some surging in the harbor at the far end of the swim.

Fun! I remember hitting the opening last year and thinking this is almost like a real OW swim. :). Sounds like we can leave the smoked goggles in the bag

Just got done surfing. Water's high 50s and it's still very overcast at 10:20am, so yes, don't count on there being any sun while you're swimming!

Just got home from the expo.

Here is the bottom line on T1. Towels, bike shoes etc on the ground will be allowed, so normal type T1. What is different they will only transport gear in the two plastic bags they give you. One for clothes and the other for your swim gear. So pack light.

T1 is bike “rack” by race # and T2 you have your own # spot. There is going to be QA today at 3 and tomorrow at 2 but run gear drop off is also at 2 tomorrow.

BTW water temp 52…J/K..58 some good surf too.
