No vacuum. What I did was instead of putting down a coat of resin which is messy and hard to work with(control) when working with a big sheet of c/f is a nice even coat of super77 spray mount to stick the c/f down into place.Once the c/f is down then I applied the impregnating resin ,2 coats ,it will go through the c/f to the base to bond.
The resin works best in a warm room, flows and spreads better.

wow, that is amazing, how did u get the carbon weave to lay flat between the spokes? I thought it would ripple or stretch?

I also got creative with my rev-x and reinforced all the areas of angular deformation (from lateral flexing), with urethane bonding matrix (resin that dries hard, and not brittle), commonly avail as "Sumo Glue"







I got the increasing hub-flange idea from the limited run of REV-X's in 2001-2002 that had a "New Improved Radial Hub Flange"


sure isn't pretty tho.... only added 16 grams of weight!

Ebay , Elite Motoring I use the 3k 2x2twill and epoxy resin.It looks like he is out of 2x2 black twill.They also red,gold,blue etc. I toyed with the idea of red but my bike and front wheel is clear carbon.

Looks good, my only concern would be the effect on the braking surface? also what would happen if it somehow came unglued during heavy braking??

I did not run the new c/f on to the original brake area, backed off about 3/8''.

Awesome idea. Looks really well done too.

And with the spare CF, you can make aero chainring/spider covers, or rear mech cages.

Not at all! The original Hed 3D (technically only on the market for 3 or 4 months) was the best performing disc wheel ever made (as of about 2 years ago). Not sure how it stacks up against a Sub9, but I bet you it's pretty darn good.

I want to make one in gold CF now!!

I think the real question everyone wants to know is:
Does it make the same sound as a normal disc wheel when riding?

Sure I think it would be easier then H3.

Get a 2 pieces of black/black core mat board (your substrate)from a picture framer.Have it cut so it over laps about 3/8'' on to the rim.cut out the hub hole also.





Glue it to the 4 spokes and inside area of the rim.

You will need to do a cut out for the valve stem.Also in the valve cut out you may want to put some 1'' strips of foam in the inside area of the cut out.

For the c/f I would over lap it about 1/2'' past the substrate on to the rim for a strong bond.

im trying to picture this... would this as as disc be smooth all the way around or will there be a lip at every spoke like the hed 3D?

One solid piece on each side like a wheel cover.
I re-thought it and you can make the "covers" off the wheel then glue them down to the rim?

good idea, but how do you form it off the wheel?

im also thinking it would look killer if the "disc" portion was recessed below the spokes a bit.. that may be difficult.....

Make a template out of lattice strips which matches the wheel and spoke angle,then make the covers on that , then mount to the wheel.

Not sure how to recess below the spokes,better off with one smooth piece.

Give me a month or so I'll make one.I'm thinking red.;-)
