stages and garmin with speed sensor question
Quote | Reply
If I use a garmin 500 and stages PM together I don't need the speed/cadence sensor out doors I assume. The stages will broadcast cadence and the GPS will determine speed/distance but on the trainer I'm not sure if I would want speed or not. I suppose it doesn't matter but lets say I want it, if I keep my ANT speed/cadence sensor do I need a magnet for the crank or will the garmin know to use cadence from the PM? If I do need a magnet will the magnet interfere with the PM in anyway?

Garmin GPS units use crank based power meter cadence in preference to cadence sensor cadence, and they use wheel sensor speed in preference to GPS speed.

If you ride indoors on a decent trainer, then having a wheel sensor is good for giving your rides some real-world context.

Less is more.
