speed concept sizing: please help slowman
Quote | Reply
Dan, I need help. I'm 6'2"(symmetrical) and trying to decide what size bike to buy. I went to my local shop and test rode a few today, now I'm even more confused.
I read one of your post describing your experience with the large speed concept. Was the large the correct size for you?
The biggest surprise for me today was how fast the Felt bike was. I rode a P3(58mm) and a 7 series xl speed concept. The Felt was a 54mm. In all fairness, it was the top of the line Felt, about 14-15k. Do you think a large speed concept would be ok?
Any Slowtwitchers with some helpful thoughts, please feel free to respond. Thanks

You might have more luck catching Dan's attention by adding Slowman to the title of your post.

Typically you will fit across a couple of bike sizes in every manufacturer's line, but it is odd that you are rode two 58 cm bikes and then a 54 that you liked better. Perhaps the front ends were so high on the 58's that the drop on the 54 was just more natural. Felts were historically a bit longer and lower, but if you were on an IA I think this trend has changed. So not sure why the 54 worked better. Based on nothing more than your size I would think you'd end up with at least a 56cm frame.

Thanks...I had a professional fitting done about 6 years ago. It was decided a Cervelo P2 size 58 was the best option for me. It seemed to be fine.
Would the speed concept large be comparable?

Do you have your stack and reach numbers? If not measure it off your bike.

if you're asking between the M and the L, definitely the L. if you're asking between the L and the XL then it could be either, but probably the L.

the very best way to decide this is to know your pad position relative to the BB. this then gives you an exact picture of what each bike would look like built up. but for me the L was the clear correct size, and i'm between 6'1" and 6'2".

Just a hunch...

;-)

If you have any questions on the bike let me know.

One thing I say and I get flamed for it all the time. The bike doesnt win your races for you.
Your training and comfort on a bike that is fit for you makes all the difference.

This could very well have been a Felt or a Cannondale. You push those pedals.
Make sure to kick your ass before you dump your wallet. Otherwise you just have a big piece of bike porn.
