riding in Tallahassee Florida
I'm in the last 4 weeks of training for an upcoming 70.3 and will be traveling to Tallahassee, Florida the weekend of 10/27. I need to get in a 2.5 hour plus ride on Saturday. I'm staying just north of I-10 near where it intersects with us27 and would like to ride from hotel. It looks like there are bike lanes near it. I'm looking for something safe and although I'm a flatlander, can handle some hills. I'm riding my tri bike. Any suggestions? I put together a course on garmin connect that looks ok, but local knowledge is even better. I'm happy to ride solo but company for the ride is alright also. thanks for help!

Steve

Here is a list of popular rides:

Unfortunately, I don't see any immediately that are super-convenient to your hotel.

Here is something that might work:

A search term you can use is "Havana Hills"
(The two things about your proposed route that concern me are the portions on Tennessee street and Capital Circle)

You could also try heading east. Lakeshore to Meridian to Timberlane, then cross Thomasville and do the Bruegger's Bagel Ride from the first link. You would need to be careful on Meridian but it is a short stretch.

I would expect both routes to be "rolling hills" (like everything in Tallahassee, unless you head south towards the coast). Possibly fewer stop signs/lights on the Havana route.

I should also mention (although you prefer to leave from the hotel and this would be about a 20 minute drive each way) that the most popular place for road riding here is in Chaires. I think several of the rides in the first link leave from the Chaires community center, where it is easy to park.

Yeah, I'm from Tallahassee and when I ride there it's usually out east. Miccosukee out from near Capital Circle/90 and head east and/or south. I wouldn't ride Capital Circle, Tennessee, or even Old Bainbridge. Orchard Parkway has a bike lane, right? Laps?

Yes, we have a great community of triathletes here. Unfortunately (and this is a pet peeve of mine), the best way to ask them about stuff like this is on their facebook page which is only accessible to club members. Steve, I would be happy to post something there if you are interested in finding people to ride with (feel free to PM me).

Ok- here's the Havana route from the hotel. Any advice- things to look out for? Are there places to stop to refill?

Hey Steve.
I live near your hotel, but could not begin to think I could ride with you right now. (injured) I ride Havana to Whigham all the time. I'll check your map and get back to you

I mapped another. It has gentle rolling hills and super safe. There are several stores along the route, one in Calvary and one at the half-way in Whigham. You have a choice of rides! This one is super safe and i would do it alone. Its a simple out and back. Just be really careful riding out 27 - that is the sketchiest part of either ride.

It is sort of. I don't like to ride straight up Old Bainbridge. I think the shoulder of 27 is probably a little safer because Old Bainbridge is 2 lane canopy narrow road. You could actually eek out 2 1/2 hours by just leaving the hotel, head north on 27 to Havana, turn left at the first light (hhy 12) and stay on the shoulder of 12 until you run out of time, turn around and go back.
If you have a minute to give me a call at work tomorrow around 10a, i'm at Capital City Runners on Thomasville Rd. I can give you a bit more info - kathy
