Amazing race but next time I'm doing Airbnb, price gauging in this town is indecent!

How is this possible? Businesses in Lake Placid aren't making any $$ from Ironman. (pint font)

I heard lodging was nuts for that race....a friend who did it had a hard time finding a place with less than a 4 or 5 night minimum. Count me out for IMLP!

I've done IMLP and stayed at the KOA campground in Wilmington. I think I paid $45 each night the year I tented. Not everyone would like the tenting experience days before an Ironman though. Sleep is critical. But most of the lodging in town is a kicker. There are some decent options under $200 per night if a person can find them and snatch them up... but still.

I doubt they are sold out, many will not even book yet. If you have the coin, put yourself on the waiting list for the Hampton Inn. It will be expensive but the convenience is worth it. I did LP in 14' when the thunderstorms hit and my family was watching from the balcony, and nothing beats putting on your wetsuit in the room and wandering across the street for the start.

The VRBO options are great as well, we booked a house for the 70.3 this year that sleeps 12 and cost $3200 for 6 nights.

In the end there is only so much space in Placid, it is just part of the deal.

Even the Air Bnb's price gouge! I'm staying at the same place I stayed at two summers ago and the nightly rate is almost double.

In this case and as much as I like Lake Placid (trust me one of my favorite places in the whole world), I am not going to be strong armed to paying those rates. I'm out, and based on this I will start spreading the word around aspiring IM's I know not to sign up for LP.This is ridiculous.

I just booked a room for $249 at Gauthier's Saranac Lake. I love LP, hate the prices. I think they still have rooms available. 1 518 891 1950. Saving my pennies now...
