OW swam in my home town lake in Northern Cal for the first time this year today. 62 degrees @ 1'. Looked at Oceanside Harbor today and it said...62 degrees. Today I wore a wetsuit, neoprene cap, goggles, and a regular swim cap. I took a minute to acclimate to the temp. I let some water in my suit. I began to swim. My face...really cold instantly. I kept swimming. After five or so minutes I had no issue with water temp. Don't get me wrong, it was cold but it was bearable. My concern is more about how to dress for the bike - particularly if there is coastal fog (bone-chilling cold IMO).

Wouldn't mind chatting with some ST folks Thursday afternoon/evening. Spending Friday recreating with the family.

I had a hard time leaving Sanders out of my Top 5 predictions. I'll be interested to see how he does on this bike course, in conjunction with a strong field of swimmers.

Sorry, I haven't figured out a meetup time and place for everybody.
Usually there are chairs set up in in front of the stage, and expo booths all around, plus the "bleacher" type seating too.
Those of you who are traveling and racing, maybe a quick Friday meetup in that area?
Traffic on the 5 freeway is horrendous on Friday afternoon, so keep that in mind.
I'm not racing, but I'll be there working with Chamois Butt'r/Go Stik at the Nytro booth, so can pop out to say hello.
For anybody in town Thursday 5pm, here's the link to a cool event walking distance from pier,
$10 for good tacos and beer plus silent auction, supporting the Oceanside Jr. Lifeguards.

Looking forward to seeing everybody!

On the Women's side...
Tisseyre for the win. Last weekend she took the "W" in Monterrey by 10 minutes.

I may be partial, but I feel it's a pretty safe bet.

I believe that would make for an almost all-Canadian female top-5.
Yes, i know that Heather Jackson isn't Canadian, however she is an extremely good Ice Hockey player, so you know, close enough?

This is going to be an awesome showdown, wish I were there to watch.

How to dress for the bike? It's usually somewhat cold coming out of the water, but it's going to warm up fairly soon. You'll see most of the athletes cycling in sleeveless tri kits and possibly arm warmers.

If you get cold easily, maybe a light jacket for the first section of the ride until that mild uphill? You can also wear something throwaway on the bike, dump it at the first aid station 15 miles in -- that's my plan. Got an old cycling windbreaker.

I have a hard time betting against Sanders in virtually any race this season. His swim has improved a bit in the offseason, and his bike and run aren't all that shabby. No, he won't be in the front swim pack, but he'll probably only be 2-3 min back. With his bike and run that doesn't mean much, even with super studs like Frodeno.
