BTA for '14 Trek Speed Concept
I'm in the market for a new BTA hydration system. The monoextensions of the new Trek SC kind of limit what can be used. I was a diehard Torhans 20/30 user on my Gen 1 Trek SC but that's not really practical on the new SC (gotta really MacGyver it on there and it sticks out too far from the head tube for it to be aero efficient). I used the Speedfil A2 which is excellent when working correctly but if the straw gets turned up inside the bottle it's pretty much useless. Had that happen to me twice and I'm done with it.

The new PD FC25 looks nice but I'm pretty confident that won't fit on the Trek SC monoextensions. The PD Aero HC bottle doesn't have very good reviews so that's out.

The Xlab Torpedo System looks like a good option.

Really intrigued by the Torhans AeroZ but that also doesn't look like it would fit on the Trek SC monoextensions.

Any issues with just a regular bottle BTA?

This is my personal preference (even if its slightly slower than some of the new aero bottle's) as I don't have to worry about splashing, making a mess on my bike, and refilling the bottle during a race (70.3 and longer). I think there is too much hassle with refilling the aero bottles so I'd rather just grab a bottle from my downtube and put it BTA when the original BTA bottle is empty.

I'd just rather have the straw. Both for convenience and for the fact it's more aero (yes, I know there's a lot of assumptions to that).

I'll take a pic when I get home (I owe a bunch threads pics! Lol) but I've been everywhere on this. Ultimately I settled on the Bontrager bta cage and cutting a hole in one of those "magnum" 33oz bottles. Admitedly I don't have a 70.3 strategy with this setup yet. However it is solid, easy to drink from, and more fluid than I act need for an oly.

I had an Xlab on there. You can make it work. However for me it was barely enough for an oly and I had to zip tie it to secure it. Otherwise it would gradually rattle out.

I actually just posted some pictures of Torpedo Systems we have seen on the Trek monobar a few days ago. You can check the post here: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/...rch_string=;#5408031. Let me know if I can answer any questions!

I decided to try the Xlab product. I just bought the bottle since I already have cages and the monoext mount.

Cool! Let me know how you decide to mount it and how it is working for you if you can. We have seen a few ways to mount the system, but just the initial feedback that it works. Would be interested in getting a longer-term opinion.

Candice, do I need the torpedo cage to make this work? I initially thought I could just use a Gorilla or Chimp cage but it looks like the bottle is designed for the torpedo cage.

Nope it's not specific to the torpedo cage. It will definitely work with a chimp or gorilla cage.
