What to do while on your trainer

I don't want to over-hype it so I'll just say the reason the internet was invented was so you could listen to this:

Catch up on TV series (netflix). Almost caught with The Walking Dead, then on to Sons of Anarchy. That should round out my winter nicely.

Back in my road racing days, I'd watch action movies or play video games. Only way I could tolerate 2+ hours of riding indoors.

I am not asking for advice. I am giving it. I have Netflix. It has been great. But this podcast will blow you away.

The series is called Serial. It is an investigative report about a boy who is alleged to have killed his high school girlfriend. Produced by the impeccable Ira Glass.

I'f I've got say a 3 hour ride with 3x20:00 @ Z3, I will usually put on a movie when I am in Z2, then pause it and listen to music when I am in my work interval

I watch ESPN and listen to music way to loud during my intervals. Losing my hearing in my 30s isn't much fun. I think I need to lower the volume.

I've been listening to it since it started and while it's good, I can think of many many many things better than it on the internet. If it suddenly stopped downloading to Downcast feed, I probably wouldn't notice.

Caught up on the Walking Dead. Now I'm watching Dexter. I've decided I need a "kill room" at work.

I'm a big fan of NPR and Ira's work in particular. So when my wife proposed we listen to the podcast at home (she's a "music only on the radio" kind of person and not a big far of public radio) I was pumped. I've only listened to the 1st two episodes, though. So far I like it even though it's giving me the heebie jeebies...

Easy EDM. I cannot concentrate on my ride while watching tv that requires me to pay any attention at all. Sometimes football however. For a half I will ride hard during commercials and easy during the game. Shower at half time and second half on the couch with a beer. This off season riding regimen has been pretty successful for me.

Looking like a color blind super hero!
Damn triathlon.

when i first started on the trainer, i would put on some amateur pr0n...did wonders for me, honestly.

Now, i dont need that extra motivation anymore (and I'm sure the neighbors are happy they dont have to hear those sounds at 5am blasting from my TV) so I am catching up on the tv series everyone at work has been raving about for the last couple of years.

4 hours, nothing but music and the trainer road screen. Shooting for max of 5 hours.

I also have a 20 mile run route that I call sub-division hell. Every cul de sac and road in three local housing developments, 20 miles and never more than 3 miles from the house.

The run is much harder mentally.

anything on netflix or hulu plus.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, covered in scars, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'hell yeah', what a ride.

I just chase watts. Start, warmup 10-20 min with a few pickups and then chase the computrainer metal man, or ride in erg mode. Usually done in an hour so no need for any distractions.

Just about the same. I train inside during the weekdays year round and since about August have gone to more of a polarized type of schedule with higher intensity 4 x 8's or 10's and 2 x 20's in TrainerRoad workouts. After a warm up and spindown of the equipment these intervals go quick. More like ripping the Band-Aid off fast rather than slow :-) I use a trance station on Pandora with many of the songs having a similar beat to my typical cadence. The focus is to hit the interval training target typically top of FTP or a touch higher. The warm up and cool down seems to be the longest part. The discomfort in those intervals is enough that I cannot focus on anything else. Even the music becomes a blur.

Just a training preference these days.

Pretty much what I do too but the metal man doesn't climb worth a dang so it's a fairly flat course when i ride with him.

Good podcast. Wife and I got hooked on it during holiday travels.....not sure it would be my first choice on the trainer since I have a hard enough time keeping up with all the individuals when not working out.

I was actually surprised this podcast got so little attention here given the investigation crew that comes out in force when someone is accused of cutting a course.....I expected Slowtwitch to have this case solved a month ago.

Netflix is my go to. I watched all of The Walking Dead during my build up for IMTX. Almost done with Breaking Bad during the build up for my HIM last month. Once I finish Breaking Bad, I'll have to choose between House of Cards, Sons of Anarchy, or Orange is the New Black for my build up to IMTX 2015. I usually go over to Pandora, spotify, or youtube playlists during hard intervals though.
