1 - has anyone tried the upgraded parts that increase braking power for 2014?

you can shim it to fit smaller ones, but it doesn't come with shims

I've got the generation 3 lever kit on mine, didn't notice any better nor any worse stopping power.

I've got generation 3 levers also on my rear brake. Doesn't feel any better than the stock brake I replaced it with. Much easier to adjust though.
